Going to attempt changing the disks etc on the front.....
Any hints/tips from you that've done it before? This weekend it's just me n the dogs (peace n quiet!) so going to cross my fingers it stays dry and hopefully crack on with no problems. I'm replacing the seized caliper with a new one, and changing both disks and all pads at the same time. The thing that bugs me is iirc the reservoir for the brakes also provides the fluid for the clutch. Will it affect it at all?
Re: Going to attempt changing the disks etc on the front....
The reservoir has baffles inside that prevent one a leak on circuit affecting the others. After you've drained the fluid from the duff calliper, you'll see the baffles holding back the fluid for the other two compartment.

Shouldn't affect the clutch, as the fluid level doesn't get too low when bleeding. It would probably be an idea to use a pressure bleeder rather than pumping the pedal as well. I've ruined a beetle MC doing that in the past and one for a 412 will be a lot harder/dearer to replace than one for a 70s bug!
As for the disc you will possibly be better of fitting new wheel bearings in them rather than trying to knock out the old ones from the old disc.
And the usual soak everything that needs to be undone with plenty of WD40 first, you don't want the aggro of rounded heads etc

Bugger, didn't realise the bearings would be a pain. Will get them ordered up then. Cheers guys

good idea to replace the bearings and they are cheap and easily obtained.
Don't forget to slacken off the retaining clamp nut with an allen key before forcing it ;-|
Yes, bleeding takes ages and ages of pumping

Just to say it all went swimmingly Oh and the bleed kit that's a tenner from halfords is well worth the money n makes life much easier!
The only snag that was thrown up really was that the other calliper is a little sticky so going to have to keep an eye out for the n/s one as well now

More like well done Hero Haynes Paul

Sticky calipers sometimes respond to being 'exercised', but it can sometimes indicate a hard seal.
The rubber dust-covers are critical - make sure they're not split as that causes corrosion of the outer part of the piston.

Thanks Editor, I'm giving it a week of driving to see what happens and the wheels have to come off again anyways just to check it's all as is should be. I'll check it then. When bled through it was horrible brown shite that came out, so I'm hoping new fluid will make the difference. The stuck piston on the old calliper did have a split seal, but that may of been from using a screwdriver to waggle the caliper off where it was seized. The rubber didn't look too bad iirc.

They often get damaged when pads are changed, when the rusted in pads resist easy removal and a screwdriver is used to help.
