speedo cable question
speedo cable question
Mine fell out of the back of the speedo today and I cannot get it to go back in and work. Any top tips guys?

Re: speedo cable question
Is the square pin still on the end of the cable? If so is the plastic bit that connects the cable ontothe back of the speedo still locating properly, I know mine is cracked slightly but it still holds and works.
Failing that replace the cable

Re: speedo cable question
Yes the square bit is there and spins around nicely (though the speedo used to jerk around like mad at low speeds so it is probably sticking somewhere down the outer). Like yours the plastic is damaged and doesnt work well. I was hoping for a way to push or hold the rest of the cable in but ...indeed...I have bought a replacement for £10 off ebay.

Re: speedo cable question
Speedo cables need fresh grease after a few decades otherwise they stick and jerk and can wear out. There is a small circlip over the inner at the top end which can be removed and the cable pulled out from the bottom (wheel) end. I've done it a couple of times and have used graphite grease and then put it all back again. Don't worry about getting too much in and it finding its way into the speedo, the twist of the inner means that the grease will naturally migrate down towards the road wheel.
