412 parts/info wanted

Hi all, I've only recently bought my '72 412 Variant and just found out today that the offside front caliper is binding - is it possible to buy repair kits for these (its an ATE type caliper) or is it a case of finding someone to recondition it? I also need a speedo cable - does anyone have a spare or part number? It's the bayonet type which I think were also fitted to 1303's but no-one seems to have any of these either!

I think you'll find the early Type 4s used the same caliper as the late Type 3s and the later Type 4s used the same caliper as fitted to the front of the Porsche 914.

VW changed the offset with the '72 412s to accommodate thicker brake pads. I can't remember the offset differences of the top of my head but the later one is something like 60mm and the earlier one is 45-50mm.

As for the speedo cable, you are correct about the 1303 super beetle using the same one. Have you tried the usual suppliers, ie VW Heritage, Megabug, GSF etc
