Hi all,
just a little one here, under the bonnet of my 411 there is a contact switch just left of the production plate and surprise, surprise its suddenly broken! its become a real nightmare to find a replacement. i have tried a beetle door contact but its slightly different to this. if anyone has some info that would be much appreciated!
many thanks
jack

Re: 411 Bonnet Contact Switch Thingy
What's it a contact switch for?
Only thing that I can think of would be an aftermarket alarm or is there a light in your boot?

yeah that's right Shawn, its a switch for a light under the hood. so when you've got side or dipped beams on it comes on when the hoods open. basically the piece of plastic has snapped (if you have a look at my first post, its in the last picture, you should see it).

I can see the switch in the pics now you mention it.
Could you pick one up from Halfords that would do the trick? Or they list loads on ebay but they don't mention the sizes...

The other possibility is a tilt switch like they use in the later VW tailgates, which closes when the tailgate is open. The ones on Maplin website are low current. I've not looked for the one on my Golf Tailgate, so I'm not sure what they look like.
Dave.
Re: 411 Bonnet Contact Switch Thingy
well as i say i tried a beetle one and it was completely different in fitting, the piece i've got seems to be a specially made one. so maybe ebay and maplins are the way to go!
thanks for the help guys

Re: 411 Bonnet Contact Switch Thingy
The tilt switch would have to be fitted on the lid, so it went on when opened. What about a reed switch - like window alarm switches? They open when you lift the bonnet, off when closed?
