Driver Ronnie Kruger and navigator Peter Fisher driving a 1969 2-door VW 411 (Type 4) sedan in the 1970 Total Rallye, in South Africa
Note the additional headlights for night driving (those on the bumper angled outwards to illuminate the side of the road), and the extra fixtures to prevent the front hood from opening. Also note the total lack of safety equipment like crash helmets, roll bar and seat belt harnesses. Those were the days!
CCN used to be the registration number of Uitenhage, in the Eastern Cape, still the home of Volkswagen South Africa .
P.S. Ronnie Kruger used to be the marketing manager of VWSA. If anyone has his current contact details, could you please let me know? I spoke to him about 4 years ago. At the time he was staying in the States, and was involved in the exporting of Cobra kit cars from South Africa. I am busy with an article for an overseas publication, and need some info from him. Thanx!
