411 / 412 dampers - rebuild option

Post by 937carrera » 10th June 2013 - 1:43pm

I have been reading around and understand that there are problems in obtaining both front and rear dampers / shock abosorbers for the type 4, including this thread viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2901

I know someone who does damper rebuilds. His main business is supply and rebuild of race dampers, but as an enthusiast I have just had a conversation with him about the potential for rebuilding type 4 dampers. He's willing to take a look. :D

Does anyone have a donor set for him to look at (condition unimportant), so he can identify the components required. If I recall correctly the fronts even have a screw top fitting which will make rebuilding them easier.

Is this an option anyone would be interested in ?

Certainly sounds worth exploring. I have some s/h spare ones and my cars are some time away from being on the road, so no immediate need in my case, but it must be worth having someone who can do this type of work.

Hopefully somebody in the area (where is this specialist?) can supply a set for examination.
