Hi I got Solex 36-40 Carbs from a vw412 fitted to my engine and wondered how to set them up...They have got the throttle screw at the base of each carb which i assume is the mixture screws. Also a large screw next to the cut off solenoid on each carb. Are these the air volume screws?...
Does NOT have idling bypass as the 32-34PDSIT..Does anyone know what is the procedure for setting these carbs or know of any websites etc...i have searched for this procedure but as yet not found anything on the web. Is there a Haynes available? Thanks in advance..
Nev

Solex 36-40 Carbs Setup Help Please
1795 Aircooler Type 4
I don't know off-hand, but one will just steadily increase the rpm (throttle-stop screw in the Type 3 carbs) and the other does the mixture which will start running roughly towards each end of the adjustment.
Count the turns when you adjust so you can replace it at the start position.
On the 34-PICT as fitted to the 1600 camper, the large screw by the idle jet cut-off is an air-bleed screw that adjusts engine rpm.
If it fits in a big hole, it's more likely to be passing air than fuel.
