Re: master cylinder brakes,
The master is no longer available, surprise, surprise.
Best bet is to send it of to be rebuilt to pastparts or if its just the rubbers then possibly a repair kit is available but can't remember of the top of my head which one and then again it also depends on what master is fitted. It's never as straight forward as you think with a Type 4 )

Re: master cylinder brakes,
Well I rebuilt it using the pistons and seals Tec out of a t1, as it was the donor master cylinder was a new one I brought, and had put on the beetle, but never filled it hence problems trying to bleed it when I put it on, I suppose really a left hand t1 could of been use, as they are half the price of a RH,one. Or possible a repair kit for a dual circuit t1, cost about 26 quid from GSF. Either way I think I may be back in Buisiness,

Re: master cylinder brakes,
I did have the master refurbed at pastparts, 118 quid returned,
Re: master cylinder brakes,
I've had the leaky clutch master ever since i bought my 412, and today i finally got my hands on a NOS master repair kit. It's part no.411.698.181A does anyone know if the kit is for the clutch master or the brake master or both?
I've tried looking the number up online but can't find any info. I can take some pics of the kit if that helps.

Re: master cylinder brakes,
411.698.181 appears in my Parts book as tandem master brake cylinder repair kit 19.05 (mm bore). Sometimes the A suffix is a slight change of specification, and others it's a significantly different part. Since the 6 stands for brakes and the 98 for repair kit, I suspect it isn't for the clutch, which should start with 411 7....

Re: master cylinder brakes,
Just seeing all the 3's now
Are these type 3 part's?
Btw this repair kit was orignally ordered for my car many years ago by it's orignal owner and found it's way to me the long way round and arrived out off the blue in my work post thanks to a member in one of our clubs over here. sometimes it's nice having the only type 4 on the block

Re: master cylinder brakes,
I've not had a Type 4 brake master cylinder apart, but it looks like that in the parts book (very similar to the Type 3 too). The casting numbers are the part codes from ATE - not VW.
