Post by purplepeter » 18th December 2014 - 10:56pm

It's that time of Year again, So the annual cruise to Imber is on 28th December
Meeting in Westbury Town Centre car park BA13 3BN From 12noon, Moving off around 12:45
All welcome, Even people in Non VW's & Even Watercooled!
Meeting Earlier this Year, to allow us more daylight time in Imber via A quick stop in Lavington to re-group & allow traffic to get past us, then onwards to Imber

The Church in Imber Will be open & the exhibition will be on display

For those of you who don't know the history of imber, the potted version is...November 1943,the US army were looking for a village to use for training purposes in anticipation of the liberation of Europe, so the war department arrived in imber village, and basically told the residents that they had a month to pack up & leave the village, that they'd be compensated for their food crops, but not for loss of property, as they were only "borrowing" the Village!!
On the day that the US army moved out of imber, the British army moved in!
the residents never got any compensation for the loss of their homes.
The village is only accessable on a very limited number of days per year & doesn't appear on many maps! There are several events in the village over the Christmas period, including a "peace vigil" on New years eve.
