PHOTO CALL FOR NEW CLASSIC CAR TV SHOW

Post by Editor » 5th November 2018 - 1:08am

Hi All,
There's a new Classic Car TV programme being made featuring a Type 3 Fastback which has been worked over and mildly customised. If you can help with a venue or tidy Type 3 to help with the reveal, that would be great.

This is what Will says:- " I work for a Television company and we make a series ‘Salvage Hunters – Classic Cars’ . For one of our episodes we have bought and restored a 1971 Type 3 Fastback. Although it was a good car to start with (RHD and original) it did have some elements of body work to look at. This resulted in a colour change to Birch green and following some alterations to the front bumper the wings, valence have been altered, and front number plate deleted.

We have also had some tyres striped by ‘Mr Whitewalls’ and put them on (unfortunately repro) sprintstar wheels. The car has also been lowered slightly and all seals, carpets, interior parts repaired or replaced. The result is a great looking car and we are looking for some reveal options – either great locations or with a number of other similar cars.

Looking on your website I am sure that your members are spread around the country but it would be great to find out if anyone was interested in taking part in half a days filming with their cars. We could look at locations that may be best for the majority if there was any interest.

With other vehicles we have filmed people looking around the car and giving their opinion (positive or negative) and ideally (although rarely possible) find someone who would like to buy the car or know someone who might be interested.

Below are links to a previous series to give some idea of an episode.

SHCC-EP 2 https://vimeo.com/264581985/495fdc6a79
SHCC-EP 3 https://vimeo.com/265198712/6412ba9ddb

We are looking to film this ‘reveal’ either 22nd / 23rd November. We are able to pay petrol and expenses as well as lunch. Ideally we would attract around 6-10 cars.

If there is anything you can do to enquire on our behalf that would be great, if you need any more information please do get back in touch.

Many thanks,

Will. "

I got about 10 cars/ owners all interested in this via my facebook group, just waiting on the location, someone suggested Avoncroft museum in Bromsgrove? Quite a central location I think.

VENUE PREFERRED IS ACE CAFE 20th NOVEMBER

Hi Danny and Dave,
I have had an e-mail back from Discovery / Quest (Commissioning Channel), they have heard about an air cooled event at the Ace Café on the evening of the 20th they are keen for us to use.
This may work for some of those who have shown an interest as it wouldn’t require taking a full day off and may still be within a reasonable travel distance, certainly if they are based around London.

I know you have had a lot of interest and there was mention of 10 cars keen to come when it was going to be in the Midlands. It would be great of there were still a few cars interested despite the venue change, even one or two would be great. Anything standard or modified. There will be other air-cooled VW’s there and some later T4/5 vans. Turnout is weather dependent. Completely understand if it’s too far for people especially this time of year.

Hope I haven’t caused too many problems – if anyone is interested please do pass on my details and for more info they can get in touch directly.

https://london.acecafe.com/meets/?back=9

It starts at 18.00, finishing at 22.30 although we shouldn’t be filming that late and people can come and go.

Also we will be looking to sell the car and hopefully film the sale in the future. Worth mentioning that if anyone is looking for a RHD restored car, that although modified slightly could be put back to close to standard (front number plate delete.) I will of course forward photos and spec (inc price) next week see if appeals to anyone.

Many thanks,

Will .

Hi guys, update on this, the date is now this coming Tuesday 20th November, venue (still to be confirmed) should be Avoncroft Museum in Bromsgrove, although they asked for 6 - 10 cars they are happy to have more than that, they have asked you to be there from about 12pm and should finish about 17:30pm, they will pay for your petrol, so please bring a receipt.

I will update this when I have more info.

Please note venue change!!

Just got this email........Hello Danny,

For Tuesday it would be great of everyone could arrive at 13.00 at Shelsley Walsh. We will have sandwiches and there is tea/coffee making facilities on site.

If everyone could keep a petrol receipt, I can refund it out of our float (ideally if its to the nearest £10 as I may not have change), or we can arrange payment via transfer the following week for any petrol expenses.

It would be great to get an idea of numbers – I appreciate that people may change their minds on the day but to give us an idea of how to film and set up the location.

Shelsley Walsh

https://www.shelsleywalsh.com/ please let me know who can definitely make it on Tuesday.

Well done all involved, and thanks to Danny for pulling it all together. I'll probably have to wait to see it on Quest in a year's time!

The new (second) series starts on Weds 16th Jan at 9pm on Quest, but I've not looked to see which car that episode features. Repeated an hour later on Quest+1.

Interesting. But what were they thinking about with the modified Front Bumper ?

I know what mine cost to buy NOS from ex Club Chairnan Jay, then get them triple chromed to show standard. Why cut one up to narrow it when new ones are virtually unobtainable ?

The one they had wasn't perfect, and they felt the car looked better for having a shallower bumper. I don't think it was worthwhile in cost, but why else do some owners replace with the early bumpers, if it's not for looks. At least we didn't get the ugly aluminium bumpers of the 1974 412 models (USA only?).
