1971 Fastback sees daylight after 28 years

Post by shauncwalsh » 23rd October 2015 - 4:51pm

In the process of resurrecting my late father in law's fastback.
Hasn't moved for 28 years.
Here are some pics taken as she was pulled out of the garage.

Would this happen to be the one over at Chris Gilleys currently?

Yes it is, Chris has been working on it on and off for a few weeks, with luck it should be back home before Christmas.

Paint looked like it may detox & polish up alright with a gentle machine polish, drop me a line if you ever need a hand with that, I'm only over in Stockport :)

Update......
Chris finished all the work on the Fastback in early 2016 and due to other commitments (basically being damned busy), she sat in my garage SORNed for over a year with occasional foray onto the drive to circulate oil and fuel and stop the tyres flat spotting.
But last week I got insurance, a fresh MOT and tax and this weekend have had her out on the road.
I have found a new tank sender unit so it will be back in the garage to have that fitted and a misfire/backfire attended to.
Apart from that she drove fine.
Next question is there an aircooled club that meets anywhere near stockport?

There are a couple Shaun. Your best bet is to get onto Facebook, I am a member of both SO.Manc vw, we meet at the greenfinch pub in didsbury the last Sunday afternoon of each month. We also are at the didsbury classic car show Sunday 9th July(if you move quick you may be able to join us, would be great to have two fastbacks there). We will also be at the woodsmoor classic show later in summer.
I am also a member of SK-vw that meet at the Spring Gardens pub, and are run by a very nice couple from davenport.
