my new 68 squareback too

Post by Radish » 14th June 2009 - 8:49pm

Just bought this off hoonzie, it was a real bargain!
it needs a few bits doing like starting with fuel line replacment, service the engine as its been in a garage for 7 years.
Then its the tyres maybe wheels if i can afford some, horn and see how the mot goes.
Then seat belts in the back and if the wheels haven't been changed by then, then its wheels and interior.
its got a 1800( unsure if its 1776 or 1835) with twin webers
i'm well chuffed
Heres a few pics

cheers guy's
wheels- i'm thinking porsche. i really want fooks but its then pretty much a T3D clone.
The exhaust is homebrew, the box looks a bit bigger than a quiet pack.
I'll get some more pics up as and when.
I want to get it running and rollin this week, but i've got a shed load to do on my split, so we'll see.

I was thinking gas burners or polished fuch.

You can work it out roughly:-

Aug.1966 317 000 001
Dec.1966 317 134 254
July 1967 317 500 000 (rounding up to next 500,000 !)

So 134,254 were made between Aug '66 and Dec '66, an average rate of nearly 27,000 a month. Yours is another 48,000 chassis, so that's a bit less than 2 months production - ie late Feb 1967.

I believe monthly figures are available somewhere, but I've never found the source, and if you contact the VW Museum in Wolfsburg with some money, you can get a 'Birth Certificate'. Details of that are at http://home.clara.net/hallvw/dating.htm and of chassis and engine numbers at http://home.clara.net/hallvw/t3engnos.htm
Dave.
