My wifes 1500 s razor

Post by neilswheels » 9th September 2011 - 7:21pm

Thinks its a 63? B reg, RHD 'english', push button dash 1500s, needs work!

We've had it a while, in fact i could have probably paid to of had it restored in lock-up fees, but hey, I'll need something to do when I retire!!
The previous owner started to 'restore' it, plenty of bad work to redo, needs heater channels, bottoms of rear wings, some restoration of the front wings, and I hate to think what trim parts are missing. Started to slowly gather parts, got some NOS lights, good bumpers, and a few other bits, but whats the rush.

That's certainly a project and not one I'd want to save for my retirement (particularly the way pensions are performing!), but I'm sure its restorable.

There's a list of Chassis numbers and build dates here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/inf ... erst34.php if you are unsure of its age.
It wasn't uncommon for cars to have hung around at the dealerships before they were road registered, especially the more exotic and expensive models.

Good luck with it, and keep us posted if you get around to starting it soon.

The info on the Samba for type 34's isn't very accurate. Good as a guide I guess though.
According to the samba, my 34 (vin number 0 064 930) was built July 62. The actual date was Aug 15th '62 making it a '63 model. The 63's started 0 064915.
I'm pretty sure the RHD model wasn't out until 1964?

Have a look at the T34 world site, they have a database of all known 34's with accurate build dates.

Good luck with the project, keep us updated on the progress  (dont suppose you have any spare bits n bobs for sale?)
Always looking for Razoredge parts...

August '62 Razoredge
October '65 Fastback (Teak)

The Samba dates may be when the chassis left Volkswagen then. They'd have waited a while before receiving bodies, good to know the info is out there.

I heard somewhere, although i've never heard it again or confirmed but allegedly the UK had a problem with customs, when importing a bunch of 34s and they sat at the docks for some six months before gaining clearance and being distributed to dealers. How much truth is in this I don't know.
