Re: '67 Square
Last patch for this side
All solid again
Front wing repair, out with the grot....
And in with some steel
Then everything lined up to check the gaps
I got to be pleased with that the paint will be blended to match the original once I have painted the inner wings, hopefully Saturdays job.
I really need some sill trims, the alloy ones that side on the tops if anyone has any..... Pretty please

Re: '67 Square
Painted the inner wing today and put some Baltic Blue on as you can see this through the air intakes
Now just need a rubber seal that goes around the inner air box then the wing is ready to bolt on for good
Next week stone chip the front inner wing and paint it body colour

Re: '67 Square
Nick's been busy again on the variant, this time the off-side gets some attention......
Outer sill 1
Outer sill 2
Inner
And this side still has what's left off the heater tube
All stripped out ready for some new metal
Now the seal around the air intake boxes behind the rear wings was perished, and the strip down the A pillars behind the wings was missing, so I have ordered some generic items from Seals Direct, I will report on their effectiveness once they arrive.

Re: '67 Square
The seal between the A pillar and the front wing is a mastic strip about 30mm or so wide and 2-3mm thick. Nearest readily available is probably a mastic tape called Denso Tape (made for wrapping round underground pipes). I think that would work. It's not a plastic or rubber seal as such. You could probably simply use sealant with a cartridge gun for the job.

www.woolies-trim.co.uk
They do a lot of trim stuff, mainly for British cars, so most isn't a good substitute for Type 3 stuff, but the items in the photo are OK, and the window felts are OK too.

Re: '67 Square
A bit more done this week, Nick has fitted an inner sill on the o/s and is repairing the heated tube before refitting it (pics later). I managed to scrape the inner rear wings of all the dirt then gave it a coat of stone chip to tidy everything up, would have been a more thorough dose but 1 of the aerosols wouldn't spray
Then fitted the mudguard & air box trims
Then decided to attack the surface rust on the bottom of the rear wing with a wire wheel and apply Wurth rust treatment, the idea being to blend in the paint whilst keeping the lovely OG paint, but it was cold and things didn't dry b4 family life got in the way....

Re: '67 Square
Nearside sill taking shape
All ready for the outer sill
The inner front wing was solid and after a rubdown with a wire brush it has a coat of stonechip, ready now for a coat of Baltic Blue...
Im wanting to be sympathetic with the paint repairs, there was some surface rust around the arch of the rear wing and I wanted to give it the best chance of lasting, so blended it in and im pleased with the outcome....
Now ready for its final fitting...... only another 3 to do
Although most of the car is under cover (thanks Nick) the rear is getting the rain, so I thing Im going to treat it to a T-cut and wax at the back this weekend, I was going to leave this job till last but I best bring this forward to give it the best chance

Re: '67 Square
Ok so off with the o/s rear wing, surely it's more solid than the n/s........
Alas not
Inner wing is made of fibreglass & filler, presumably for that lightweight race-car feel
Out it comes, no place for any rot on this build

I'm thinking about doing something different on this build, having had a 1176 built for my bus, which don't come cheap for a quality build, I'm thinking subaru power
Any thoughts?

I would love a Subaru conversion, it's a lot of money and work but would be a lot of fun!

Re: '67 Square
Actually compared to building a type3 engine to say even 100bhp it's cheap seeing as you can pick up a car for peanuts. I know the adaptor plate is costly and obviously the gearbox need updating ect. Then there is the cost of the cooling system. But my mate has a turbo engine going beggingMarko wrote:I would love a Subaru conversion, it's a lot of money and work but would be a lot of fun!

Sacriledge!
You won't find a type 3 lacking in power or speed.

Not if I can get my hands on a Square to put it inCreationblue wrote:But my mate has a turbo engine going begging
Cooling system should be easy compared to getting the bus one working as you can at least mount the radiator up front in this.
Shame about more rot...but at least it's gonna be one solid car when you've finished with it.
Have a good Christmas mate
Cheers

I've got to do next exactly the bit you've just showed. I wasn't sure whether to attack it from inside first or outside tbh. Ta in advance

Re: '67 Square
Well I'm not doing it myself, but cut out sections at a time until the rust is gone, then reuse the rust free wheel arch sections to get the shape you need, then fill in the blanks with new metal. Ill post up pics as we go for your referencebrimfull wrote:I've got to do next exactly the bit you've just showed. I wasn't sure whether to attack it from inside first or outside tbh. Ta in advance
