Interesting day at the track.

Tire rub on the fat butted, driver's side rear. Enough that I aborted both attempted passes.
But, even with the slicks at 28lbs, I cut 1/2 sec off my 60fts feom where I was with the radials.
Today I am working on ridding the car of worst of the rub. With the radials, there was very minor squat in the rear. With the slicks, I found out just how soft the rear suspension is  So, working on limiting squat now... We shall see!

Bit more ride height and camber required ?

Stiffer springs for slicks too, swapping torsion bars over isn't going to be easy, even if you have them

I own a pair of Marvin Shaw 'Cruiser' shock absorbers that are nitrogen charged. After talking to the owner of the company today, i have a game plan for limiting squat at launch. 300-325 psi to start...

Well, Brian Fye is very USA, up in Oregon, so I wouldn't expect it to be Gaelic. Probably Casa rather than case, though Brian may agree he has a 'case ' of VW-itis. Great guy, lovely family, and was instrumental in setting up the biennial VW Type 3 Invasions in the USA back in 2002.

I never noticed the typographic error. It should say casa

Yes, Broady, Facebook. I guess you have to be a friend to see it. Lots of noise, revs rising out of control and the air cleaner flapping around like mad!
Text as follows:-

With the carburetor at whatever it was set at, and my distributor not changed out for the one for the turbo, we primed the pump and turned the key and the engine immediately fired with the turbo on it after sitting since last August. Heck, as you can see, the throttle cable wasn't even hooked up. Now I just have to adjust everything.
Floats need adjusted, initial o2 readings for jetting need taken, the 009 timing needs set for the turbo, I have to replace one exhaust gasket and the valves need adjusted for certain. But... It is alive!!!

Thank you Mike Jones for filming it for me.

If you want a look at this car, expect it'll be at the 2020 Type 3 Invasion at Crescent City CA, in June 2020. Join the Type 3 Invasion Group on Facebook for info.

Sorry about that link. This one is YouTube based.
There was nothing done to the carb yet. Just installed and turned the key really. I was shocked it caught and fired. Lots of shake as I haven't even installed the carb support yet.

Finally, some progress that feels real. it idles! It has taken quite a bit to get to here from the start up with too much fuel and fuel pressure. Now, I can finally time it and start working on main jets. I talked to a gent that has done several e85 set ups and he told me not to worry about the idle air/fuel ratio and just worry about afr on the main circuit. e85 doesn't mind being fat.
The idle jets went from 55f9 to 90f9! Air correctors are going from 155 to 192. Mains will be big too... just don't now how big yet.

And, on the other end of the spectrum, my 71 squareback is getting a set of solex installed now. I have to pick up another filter and a touch of fuel line, then I can try and fire it.
Going from the 250hp engine to a 65hp engine. :)
