My previous attempt at a generator conversion with a type 1 alternator involved removing too much material from the alternator case, and it still wouldn't fit without major modification of the engine tin.
But this only took 15 minutes to fit
The existing regulator wiring though.....
Another job to sort out.

Well, that's it. The square went today.
This is the last pic during my ownership, stacked high with parts before being loaded onto the transporter.
I can't say the relationship was all lovey dovey because it fought me at every turn, and one job turned into 5. But I will miss my type 3. Even though I only ever got to two shows in the 7 years of owning it.
I'll still pop in from time to time to see how you're all doing.

Hi everyone, I’ve now got the squareback so thought I might keep this going. Just completed a 1600 mile trip round Cornwall without a problem and baring needing more power there’s nothing much to do. Thank you
