'67 Square continued.....
Re: '67 Square continued.....
Just poor running and a misfire. Can't seem to trace the reason, probably a dodgy head.

mind giving us an idea of cost? a mate needs similar for a turbo beetle project

£590 collected and delivered to and from Stoke on Trent.
Your mate will need to ring John and get an estimate. He’ll then ring you when he’s received and opened the ‘box up and can assess the work required.

What sort of power is that expected to handle reliably? 250hp?

About that, but it's built more as a long legged A road and Motorway cruiser to suit the expected output of the new engine, rather than a 1/4 mile stormer.
I did think about a Super Diff but they're over £300 for a SA 'box, so I've kept the stock one.

If you're carrying any significant load, I'd put the rack further forward. The rear already has 60% of the weight on it.
Dave.
Re: '67 Square continued.....
I seem to have accumulated lots of new parts, but don't seem to have the time to start putting them on the car.
Anyway, a set of extra gauges for when the new engine gets installed, but that's still a long way off at the moment though.
The gauges are mounted in a slightly modified Porsche 944 centre console fitted upside down.

Completely agree.
Looks very good.
Looks very good.
Re: '67 Square continued.....
The rack won't fit any further forward Dave, not without modification to the legs anyway.

Ive been pondering this, but as I have my radio there I still cant think of a place to put something like this!

No, not flu. Something a little more serious.

Hello, I'm back.
Lost interest in things for a few months as I was a bit unwell. Well, to be more accurate I had a probable TIA at the beginning of October.
But now I'm almost back to normal, just lost a bit of dexterity and sensation on my right hand side and I have a constant headache.
So it's time to get the square back fully fit as well.
I've acquired another engine to fill the gap until the stroker engine is ready. It has compression and minimal endfloat, unlike the others I've got.
Just need someone to help me lift it onto the engine stand.
If I can get it out of the van it should be ready to fit in a couple of weeks, just in time for the MOT.

Bloody Hell Simon!
Now I feel very guilty for not having messaged you to check you were ok!
My knee isn't really up to helping lift it out, but I'm sure Sarah or Jeff would pop over to help You

That's OK, Peter.
I'll get a neighbour to give me a hand tomorrow. If not, I'll be driving it all over the country next week.

If all else fails, I've got a folding engine hoist, which is what I use to move engines around- You're very welcome to borrow it for a few weeks!
Re: '67 Square continued.....
Engine successfully mounted on stand and partially stripped. Excuse the messy garage, there's lots of engines and parts in the way.
I think I may drop the heads off and have a look inside just to make sure. The pushrod tubes are leaking, so I can change those at the same time, along with the oil pump gasket.
The tinware will be replaced with a tidier spare set I've got, and possibly the oil cooler if I can find a Type 3 specific one with the oil pressure port.
So, anybody know where I can get an oil cooler? The usual suppliers only stock ones without the oil pressure port.
And can anybody help with freeing my flaps?
The bar is corroded into the fan housing, any suggestions on how to free it? I would like them working, and I want to get the fan housing cleaned and clear coated.
At the moment it's soaking in WD40.
