Nice! I like wood - it's kind to stored metal, absorbing damp and releasing it gradually to keep humidity more constant.

Oh boy... I started moving engine parts for the 1600 build into the shop and spotted a small turbo that I picked up somewhere. Time for a stealth stocker/turbo build! If I can go from 56 to 85bhp, I will love it!

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
I had to scrap my carbon fiber injector holders (for now) and tonight I built them from aluminum. They aren't as cool, but they are functional.
Tonight I am going to try and lay-out the fuel lines, pressure regulator and such in the engine bay.
Even after that all happens, I still need to install the fuel pump, and fit a return line on the car.
I guess, as always, the target is spring and hopefully I will get lots of shop/garage time on the Christ's Mass break.

Type 3 manifolds, throttle bodies, fuel pressure reg all mocked up. I need to shorten my hex bar a bit though.

the 2110 from the purple notch is going to get a refresh as the main seal and the valve guides are no longer holding back all the oil. what a mess!

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Well, I have been scaling back and simplifying my VW life. I am down to 2 VWs now and even the plans for them have changed... again.
I am going to ditch the EFI set up. I've never installed it, and frankly, I don't want to learn something new. I can do carbs in my sleep, so I am going back to them. The DCNF carbs on the 2110 will get pulled in favor of some 44 IDF clones I have. One of the DCNFs needs a physical repair internally and I want to drive. The 2332 will probably get a new set of 48 IDF clones after I sell the EFI.
I need to reshoot the paint on the purple notch, the clear coat has released and it is looking really bad. Finish those things and I think I have 2 cars I can be satisified with.

Found a new upper body part for the DCNF, should arrive any day. After that is fixed, the car should be a bit better on the road.

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
I bought this as a driver. Or so I thought... After driving 400 miles round trip to get it, I drove it off the car dolly. I was pretty excited to get a 2 owner car with lots of documented history. It still had the FI on it (and I, as a carb guy, was excited for that even). The next day, I drove it around the block. No power, brakes pulled hard to the right and it was idling fast.
SO, I break out the timing light... no signal from #1 cylinder. Oh boy. I changed the lead and no change. I pulled the cap and viola! 4 cylinders, but... now it is blowing smoke out the tail pipe. Grrrrr... I check the timing, it is at 30btdc at 850rpm idle!!!!!!!!!!!! So, I get the timing down to 5atdc with hoses on and go for a drive. NO POWER! It was 97F, so I quit for the day.
This morning, I needed to move the car out of the way of my truck to head to work. Keys were in the house, so I tossed it in neutral, and pushed... could barely get it to roll. The PO had just redone the brakes... apparently he never adjusted the rears after putting on new shoes. Doh!!!! SO, if that is the issue, perhaps I will have as much power as a stock 1600 can have...
The other bummer is that I thought I was buying an all original, blue interior, a/c installed car (less the tires). WRONG! Back in 95 it had the interior swapped out, the engine is out of a 1973 FI system (with 72 distributor) and one of the doors has been replaced.
Having said all that, I hope to have a daily driver on my hands soon... I need to park my gas drinking truck if I can.

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
well, the engine bay looks tidy / clean enough. What are you going to do with all that extra load lugging space in the back

Got the distributor ready to put in the car after the sun sets... Hope this helps! If not, I'm about ready to put carbs on it!

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
More steps forward, and back.
Forward, new rebuilt dizzy in and the car moves much better! Power off the line and revs right up to where the entire front end shook. That's the step(s) back. The entire front end started shaking so violently that the wheels jumped out of my hand at about 30 mph. Shocked I jumped on the brake to avoid the ditch and the car lurched hard to the right. Sad
Tomorrow, I will be putting the front end in the air to find what is, or maybe what isn't, loose. I think, I might finally get to go on a real test drive tomorrow afternoon. Maybe... unless there are more surprises.

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Put the front end in the air tonight. front wheels have over an inch of side to side travel There is no up and down travel, It will be interesting to see how knackered the tie rod ends are. I think I have 2 new ones still. Well, I hope I still have them!

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Presumably not the upper torsion bar play then? Still, neither is a massive job, unless the arms/bushes themselves are knackered! Usually tie-rod wear is only the outer ones, and those are easy to get if you've not got the correct ones in 'stock'. Easy on LHD - left hand ends have left-hand threads. Opposite way round for us RHD guys!
Remember the old Beetle - hub nuts on front were left hand thread on the left! Bit of a surprise first time I did the bearings! Is that Fjord blue '59 still going? I recall you sold it a while ago.

The old 58 bug left years ago. I just couldn't get into it, but... It was purchased and give a proper restoration.
