I meant you (unless 1967 + 44 isn't 2011)! You're definitely a one-off.
Dave.

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
I got the Variant out yesterday - started and ran nicely once fuel got to the carbs. I don't think i've run it for 2 months. Bosch battery still charged enough, too. Would be good to fit a simple priming system to be kinder and save churning it for 15 seconds or so.
Dave.
Re: Case de Fye's autos...
you want it to "churn" over, let the oil get round a bit, both my type 1's start straight up no matter what,so I don't mash the throttle to start it,I let it turn a few times then open the choke, the notch however never starts straight off (no chokes),I let it turn over then mash the throttle about 4 times then it fires up,oil lights go straight out with my method.I do the same with the old moggie convertable too
Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Fair point about the oil getting pumped round. If I use it regularly, I generally give 2 pumps on the gas to squirt a bit in, and it starts readily, but when not used for a long time, the carbs dry out, or at least the level drops, so needs filling up before it will start. I guess that's a bit like myself!
Dave.
Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Purple notch was pulled into the garage yesterday to finish putting the turbo back in. Once that is completed, then I need to pull the IDFs off the blue squareback's stock engine and put stock carbs back on it. Once that is completed, then the IDFs get bigger venturies put in and they go on the pink notchback's engine. If all that gets completed by the end of Christ's Mass break, the beige squareback gets worked on.
This time, I am doing only one project at a time! I swear!!!

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
my engines out too now,I'm fitting all new gaskets cos I found my oil leak.....everywhere..lol,Also stripped the bodywork back to bare metal for a paint, pics and portfolio to follow, found 2 small holes in the bodywork, really pleased about that, not taking the dents out though, theres too many....lol
Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Turbo is on, but i have an intake leak to deal with. also, have the IDFs ready for the speedster notch when time allows for it!

new MSD ignition with boost timing control is on its way to Casa de Fye! Should be able to safely run all the boost I want, and have easier cold starts!

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Does the luggage just sit on the roof, or is there some sort of mesh I can't see in the photo, or a drop in basket, or roof box?
The genuine VW approved roofracks (produced by another company) had gutter mounts and cross bars to make something that held luggage clear of the roof and had side rails to stop it falling off. There was one on ebay.co.uk about a year ago, but that's the only one I've ever seen. I've never quite understood why the USA dealer supplied ones bolt through the roof panel. It's certainly not something you can remove when not needed!
Anyway, the car looks great, and the roof-rack is in keeping with it.
We're looking forward to seeing it 'in the flesh'.

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
The rack sits on the roof, anchored to where the support struts are. It also comes with roof mounted chrome runners, but I have not installed them yet.
I still don't know which car is coming to the Invasion, but it hasn't been ruled out yet.

More done on the Turbo Notch project!
Finally time to test the fuel lines for leak, hook up the breather and connect the boost gauge... if there are no intake leaks, this thing should rock!

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Ran the fuel pump tonight... no fuel leaks to be found! Installed the LM-1 oxy sensor as well. Next is static timing the engine, running the boost gauge line to the dash and running the LM-1 wiring up to the front. Then... hopefully a BOOM of the good type this Saturday!

The throttle cable is hooked up (for now) and is functional. I altered the chrome top to the air cleaner and was able to close the trunk lid! Looks total stealth now Still need to decide where to put the boost gauge and I need some gas :embarrass: I ran out!

Got it running, but no boost. Found the issue(s) and have remedied most of them! Should be going for another test drive soon.

Do you have anymore photos of the turbo application? I have a 67 that I would love to install a turbo onto as well

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
How is the motor running? do you have issue with the cooling? I want to build my motor so that I can cruise 800 kilometers and still run it hard.
