'66 Fasty Sharky 2, my wife's present
On June 28, 2007, I was so excited to show Sharky to my vee-dub friends with the Araneta Boys becasue of the ragtop I installed. We had some good chat. They were glad to see Sharky sporting the ragtop I personally installed. And, indeed, they were proud. I was proud too. Unfortunately, on my way home, I figured out in a freak car accident this morning at around 2 o'clock in the morning of June 29, 2007. Sharky was severly damaged. I hope I can have Sharky fixed the soonest possible time!
This is a sad day. It is very hard to accept the fate of Sharky.

Of course you know Sharky our First Fasty that recently met an accident.
After the accident, I was thinking of repairing her. But when I evaluated the damage, it might not be wise to have her repaired. So I looked for another fastback to replace Sharky. I talked to Jun Lumbre, a fellow type 3 buff, who has five type 3's in his garage. One of them was for sale. A 1966 Fastback.
After we talked, I told my wife, she'll be good candidate and would call her "Sharky 2." I did not know that my wife immediately called my fellow vee-dub buff, Arman Hipolito, and they conspired to buy Sharky 2 to surprise me. They met secretly and consummated the deal.
Arman, HD and others, from the Nips Volkswagen boys (to whom I am a member too), towed in silence Sharky 2 in the dark night and left her in front of our house.
This morning when I woke up, my wife told me to see something outside from the window. To my surprise I saw a Fastback which looked like Sharky 2! I immediately rushed outside to checked her! Yes, indeed, the fasty was Sharky 2! I called all of them and gave my thanks. Aman, you are the man!
Yes, indeed, she was Sharky 2. My wife secretly bought her for me to replace the original Sharky! Now Sharky is back on the road in the person of Sharky 2.
Thanks to my wife, Malu, who really felt the pain I felt when Sharky met her untimely demise. To the Nips boys (Arman, HB, Lester, Jun Lumbre, Kulas, Rene, Gilbert, Bugsy, Poliboy, Jun Ruiz, Hommer, DX Boy, Audwil and others) for helping my wife for the surprise. To the rest of the VW community in the Philippines. To the Araneta Boys (Jimmy, Brio, Aris, Erwin, Raffy, Laurence, Eric, Tito Ed, Tito Babes, Daniel, Mon, Edmundo, RJ, Marvin, Ricky "the Bulol," Jimmy "Tigas" and others) who were always there too.
And of course, to the rest of the forumers at the www.thesamba.com and www.vwcp.org who were there too to give me encouragement and support. Thanks a lot guys!
Sharky before the accident!
This is Sharky after the Accident!
Now, meet SHARKY 2! She's now at home!
Me and Sharky 2!

I installed the ragtop on Sharky 2, the one I salvaged from Sharky 1. I used the roof section that I removed from Sharky 1 and placed it on top of the Roof of Sharky 2. Then, I marked it.
I did several measurements because I can only cut the roof of Sharky 2 ones. Once I cut the roof bigger that it should be, them I am doomed.
Well, installing this one is easier that the first time I did it. I guess, experience is the best teacher.

Well, thanks, nidge. The first time I installed the Ragtop was on Sharky 1. Then, I transferred it on Sharky 2. The first time was hard. But when I installed it for the second time, it was a bit easier (although honestly, it was still hard ).nidge wrote:nice ride.
