Admiration indeed! I was out driving my type 3 yesterday. The heater set just so. I meant to say, the "filler" in the blower box was actually a rubber type flexy sealent originally to prevent water ingress. Obviously years of heat and cold has turned it rock solid.

Not got much done lately, mainly due to the blinking weather...rain, rain and more rain.
When it did dry out I managed to do some bits.
Got the blower box repaired, I ended up making a liner and welding that inside the old blower box.
I sealed the joints and tested with a bucket of water...all dry phew.
Image

Had a test fit of the blower mechanism to check it all still fits ok.

Image

I need to tidy it all up now and make it look neater, though you won't see any of it when the dash is back on.

Nice to make a step forwad with the project after days of bad weather.

That screen surround looks tricky. Blower box is neat but - maybe it's only that the camera angle doesn't show it - is there still a drain for the rainwater to get out (under the petrol tank)? (Mine was rusted in that area and we came very close to accidentally blocking it.)

Yes I made a new tube to fit inside the original outlet through the bulkhead.
Once I can get to the other side of the box (when I drop the tank)
I plan on welding up the other side of my box.
Screen surround is tricky, but a small bit at a time will see it done...I hope

I put my winter gear on and headed out to the drive.
Image

Got the car turned round, so I can weld and grind without splashing gunk over the Karmann ghia.
Image

I have some dodgy areas in the passenger windscreen surround to sort.
Image

Still it will get done, slowly.

Welded up all the pillar.
Image

Looks better.

Took a break from the car, well it was raining.
Started turning an old gun cabinet into a repro petrol pump/ storage unit for my man cave.

Image

Cut a section out of the door and recessed it back a touch to make the back of the dial, will put glass over the front once it has been painted.
Made a handle for the door.

I have some mounting holes to weld up and then i can fit the hose and nozel, then paint it up.
Will sit on my work bench nicely and I can fill it with useful bits and bobs.

Tony.

Been working on my pump idea as the rain and cold has been orrible.

Image

Nearly finished, just need to sort out the glass for the top and front.

Anyway the rain stopped and the sun came out...soooooooo.

The original front bumper is big, bulky and sticks out too far.
Image

So I cut it down a bit.

Image

Then I cut 5cm out of the width and reshaped the ends, so it fits tighter to the body.

Image

Image

If the rain stops later this week, I will sort out the mounts so it can sit closer to the body.

I like it anyway.

Lets trail fit the bumper shall we.
First repair some more rust holes.
Image

Image

Then before I could try the bumper, I took away the number plate mount.

Bumper on...for now.

Bumper looks good, but where are you going to fit the number plate?

Needs tweeking a bit in the new year, but this is the general plan for the front bumper.

Also started making the indicator blanking plates.

Well I have finished deleting the original indicators and mounting the new ones.

Image

Image

Need to do some tidying up and I should be able to sand and fill the whole front end and get it into primer.

Then it is finish the sills off and drivers inner rear wing repairs and I could get the whole car sanded and filled and primered.

Mechanicals after that lot is done.

Good work! I could never do that work outside, expecially at this time of year. Motivational!
