1971 Squareback

Post by Clem » 23rd January 2005 - 10:45pm

Ive taken ownership of a 1971 Variant. It belonged to club member Lionel Watkins, who sadly passed away.

Just a few jobs for starters, but nothing major. I'll keep the progress posted ... but main work continues on the Fastback in my other thread. :)

1971 Variant

Well done, Clem. I think it's a good one - Lionel asked for various help over the years he's owned it, and it has several things he made on it - a fuel-filler flap release for example. He made a replacement one from a new one I lent him as a pattern, and he's made bushes to replace the unavailable front axle needle bearings from a special metal which self lubricates (but don't forget to add grease anyway for the other end).

A very knowledgeable gentleman, and helpful to the club too. Sad he's now dead.
