Cheers for the sealant info.

I have to say I quite like those stickers. I'm a big fan of 70s/80s graphics.
In fact once my cars on the road I might look into getting my mate with a sticker shop to make me some up!

I have to admit that something about the stripes was annoying me so I went and got some extra stripe cut to put between the rear arch and the text;

I think it has made a big difference and the stripes look right now.

I also need to get the new engine built as I store the car at my parents and as you can see they just monoblocked their drive and I'm a dead man if I get oil on it.

Still, while its sunny here is another picture;

I love the stripes, they suit the car very well in my opinion 8)

Did you get them made up somewhere? If so where? I wouldn't mind some that have VW 412 or just 412 where yours say Type 3 on the side of mine...

and the blue tarp wouldn't happen to be its "training pad" per chance :lol:

Cheers Shawn, I got the stripes about 3 years ago off ebay but Im sure that any sign shop could make you a set with whatever you want on them. If you want the stripe width and spacing measured to get the stripes right let me know and I will get a ruler out.

And yes, when parked on the new drive the car has to wear the big blue tena lady :lol:

Thankfully the road in front of our place has numerous small oil marks (not all from our Dubs either...just most of them :oops: )so our VWs are spared the embarassment of being parked over a nappy!!

As for the stripes I'll have to measure up the side of my 412 and see what I can come up with and approach a sign shop for a "guesstimate" and if my wife will let me spend a tad more on the car get some sorted :roll:

One of the events our club organises is a cardboard car rally for which I built a mini version of my fasty;

Here is the race action;

After the racing I decided to try a crash test;

Which didnt go so well so the cardboard fasty is now scrap;

Had a great weekend.

Thanks Kyle.

The front splitter is just a Kamei spoiler from a beetle with a few brackets made from old number plates to keep it the right shape and weakened so that the brackets will break if I clip a kerb or something rather than the spoiler.

I know I should be working on the engine but I loaned the fasty to a car dealership for the weekend.

Looks cool on show;

I've just spent a couple of hours reading your article on the fastback and i gotta tell you i was totally hooked, i dont generally read much and add to the fact that i needed a wee for the past hour, your articles kept me wanting for more. I've got 3 fastbacks myself, Toby, which is my daily driver, Terry who is in sorry state but is totally original having been owned by an elderly gent and loved all of its life and finally Charleen who is currently stripped and i'm currently restoring.
The info you have given has and will be a great help. I gotta go my bladder is now screaming at me!
Cheers
Gary

I dont know if anybody is still following this thread but I'll post an update anyway.

I loaned my car to BBC Alba (Gaelic telly) yesterday for them to film a feature for their version of Top Gear.

I made it to the small sprint track and the sun was out, all going well until the TV presenter hit the gas instead of the brake going into a bend and took a detour through long, rough grass.

No real damage done (I hope) but managed to burst a brake line so the pedal went to the floor and the car came home on an RAC wagon.

The upside is that while they were filming so was I so I will be puting together another video in the next few weeks. Watch this space.

I really should have tried harder to keep this thread up to date.

Anyway, the BBC Alba film has been up on You tube for a while now and you will find it here;

Last weekend I realised it was nearly a year since I had last driven my fasty so had to fix that;

Today I shocked myseld when I realised that its SEVEN years since the restoration.

By way of an update, I had the fasty out today and seven years on she is still looking pretty good I think;

Two very small blisters (not saying where they are as hopefully only I can see them) and I need to re-do the floor pan wax but thats all the wear I can see in the restoration.

Planning to finally get on with the engine re-build this summer so may have a few more updates soon,

Dave.

We done Dave, doesn't time fly :roll:

I finished mine in 2008 after 7 years, got it on the road in time for the Volksworld show 2008 and haven't used it since the 12 month tax ran out.

Now with the tax FREE, determined to get in back in use :thumbsup:

still looks very nice! unfortunate keeping on top of paintwork and rust is always going to be an ongoing thing unless you live in a warmer climate or keep it in an air tight heated garage :( I'm also lucky that nearly 2 years on from painting mine it has no signs of bubbling or anything but I want to invest in a dehumidifier for next winter, the amount of moisture that came in my garage this winter was incredible and I had to leather the car off on a regular basis to keep the moister away..
