As you say, avoid doing anything that will stop you replacing the front beam with an unmodified one later - you don't know how that modified front beam will behave on the road yet, with the cross-bracing removed from the inner torsion arm bearing. The inner solid bearing takes a significant load, and is often worn significantly by now. Still, I doubt we're talking about a service life of tens of thousands of miles any more!

I don't pretend to understand why people set about a nice-looking car by butchering it, but that's your prerogative, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'm not sure if kyle's "sick" means it's good or bad, though!

This is a great thread and I'm finally looking at doing a similar T1 conversion! I'm not sure you even have the car anymore, but if you are still here How did you find the car handled between the T3 beam and the T1?

Hi theres not a lot of difference in the handling between the two beams.I'm running hydraulic suspension but it still handles really good
