if i hadnt fluffd up that brake cyl id be able to drive it tonight! Then id be properly excited. Shud get the bits tomorow though :)

well as madbuger decided to take his engine out i thought id copy him, well it needed to come out anyway. Been having low oil presure problems around idle speed when the engine gets hot. So after a couple of hours i stripped it to bit and found a missing dowel pin had allowed a half shell to move longitudanly about 4mm. So if anythings gunna loose you oil pressure its that!

Well my girl made it. she was abit funny about starting when hot. Thanks for the patients with that guys.

Two other problems, one of which i knew before i went. Quite a bad oil leak and unfortunatly moler found this out after 100 miles behind my sump the front of the split was very much coverd in oil. Sorry about that. woooooops

And then 50miles from calis on the way back a nice red light appeard on the dash. Genny had stoped charging. So i gunned it for calis to get it back in the uk. And moler lent me his spare battery just to cover me. Amazingly the charinging problem was some what intermitent and i managed to get all the way home with out any AA help.

Ive just been to the work shop to fit a few new bits. photos later, and on the way back the brake pedal went to the floor. I browned my trousers, but luckily got it limped home. So a little job for tomorrow.

Some of you know Ive got some new wheels on the fasty from EBI. the show has been a big help in remotivating me after the hard slog to get the car built in time. And it was just in time. The engine was built and fitted just 9 days before we set off.

But heres my new pretty bits.

They will be repainted to match the front two. But for now it will run as it is.

I think i might need to roll my arches though, do you?

Voltage regulators can stick through micro-welding and then unstick. The generators are usully pretty tough, but brushes wear and bearings can fail. Take care with the posts where the wires connect - they mustn't be allowed to turn when you undo the duts or the wires connected inside can be broken off.

I think the tyres are trying to tell you something. ;-) ;-)

Thanks for the advice about the charging, when we got to calais we had an hour so i thought id have look at the engine. The dynamo had rotated because the fan housing has cracked and let the stud which holds the dynamo bracket, so that came loose. the pole which isnt the charging output was touching the tinware. DF i think. could this have shorted something out? when ive run it for a while around 3000rpm the light goes out. but as soon as i change speed the lights back on. It must be charging to some point though, I did 250 miles and started the engine 6 or 7 times and i dont think i would have got that out of just a battery.

They are the same tyres i ran on the 4 wides. but yes they at 185 65s. Just a little to big eh? haha

Started to go through the aftermath of EBI. its looking rather like ive buggerd my voltage regulator. But we'll come to that later. Oil leak to cure first

The leaks coming from the oil pump so the fan ect must come off.

Heres another top quality GSF part. Must be 2000miles old.

The pulley is a sad comment on the quality of modern replacement parts. You're ususally better off with the 40 year-old German stuff!

Well it looks like the oil leaks are cured. Its had a run out and then stod for about 6 hours and theres no spots on the ground or on the underside of the block :D

And heres the cause of all the charinging trouble.

A small crack on the fan housing which the dynamo strap bolts to.

So to stop it pulling through again, this happened. Ive super glued the bottom of the stud to help stop that nut from working its way off

To day a very nice man fastygaz `gave me a dynamo with a genuine pulley and its cured my charging problem so shes back rocking and rolling. And this time I'm going to insulate the two poles on the dynamo so if it does rotate again it cant earth out :)

Then Ive done something purely superficial but I fancied being abit more creative so here goes.

When I removed the template there were a few runs, I will be ordering some vinyl cut outs from Mrs mattblackbus when i do its for real, rather than just practice. But just to see if i was any good i just paper and masking tape.

Anyway I think must try harder is the critique on this one. the paint was tooooooo thick so I need to learn what the best mixture is. You cant tell in the photos really but theres some obvious brush strokes still in it.

Haven't seen this old girl for a while. but in the short time that i have alots changed Ive bought a pair of rear wings for her, They are far more solid but it accidentally resulted in moler and myself buying the rest of the car too. Once again huge thanks to fredshed for collectiong it for us!

So were in the process of dismantling that for the bits we want for our own projects.

Ive also had a small wiring fire in the fasty, still haven't been able to place my finger on why but ive had most of the wiring out and given it all good tidy up none the less.

Next job ive made a start on is the last bits of welding on the back end, prepping the new wings to fit and she also needs a new pair of front discs. So that should keep me busy for the week :D

Some of you know and some of you dont, that I found an engine on the type3 and 4 club for sale a few weeks ago.

After a few messages back and forth with the seller, I decided to buy it, a complete type 3 1600 TP but the only hitch was it was in bloody edinburgh.

But as luck would have it the bloke said he visits immingham from time to time and it jsut so happened he would be visiting two days later

As the engine had stood since 1987 (the year before I was born) I thought it may need a strip and clean, After a few troubles with piston rings ive got it rebuilt to the stage where I need to fit tinware so today ive chosen a colour for it and here it is.

Its a slightly richer blue than the photo lets you believe, but any thoughts?

This is my long block built up, turns over very nicely now I've thoroughly cleaned it top to toe.

I've spend way to may hours hand sanding these parts down but its gives them such a nice finish I just keep doing it.

Yes they are new doors! couple of months back now though.

Heres a little update as I've been flagging the past few days with some fairly hectic things happening at work.

Done a little bit more assembling while other parts are being painted and drying ect. The top tins have had to be rushed as I need to get this done, ill come back and rub them down properly at a later date.

As will the fan house, but the rocker covers and cylinder head tins are now done but I forgot to take a photo of them finished so this rough primered one will do for now :D

Well its 90% complete! I forgot to order HT leads, I've no idea why! So ill have to wait for them.

Jobs left to do.

Fit flywheel and clutch
Mount coil and make wiring for choke/fuel cut off
Seal air filter
Adjust valve clearance
Set the dizzy
Fit the HT leads

Ive had some joy, there were flames and it did run briefly with amazing oil pressure! but the acc pump are all blocked up so they're sat in a solvent bath atm to try and clean them out. Once theyre done it should just be a case of fine tuning it all

Well after fiddling with bits and bobs ive got it running. I borrowed the carbs from the fasty to prove the engine and it started and ran very nicely so after it warmed through.

I needed to get some fuel flowing through these carbs so lots of cleaning and prodding has got the acc pumps running and a good squire of fuel through them! So back on they went and the engine sprung to life but it didn't sound quite right. A quick look around I discovered that the carb for 3 and 4 wasn't fuelling on the idle jet so ill have to do a bit more tinkering tomorrow and hopefully it'll be ready for the transplant :D

Electric cut off working - ignition on, touch wire to connector a few times - could be stuck, open circuit, or bad wire?
