as far as Im aware they are legal on cars up to 1965, although I have them on my '72 the Police have never stopped me and its always passed the MOT with them on, but then my MOT tester is a mate of mine.

i have 2 sets of lenses. 1 for the MOT and the other for the remaining 364 days of the year. I don't think my MOT tester would fail it on the lenses but for the sake of 5 minutes switching lenses it isn't worth the agro.

Red lenses aren't illegal, but showing red light for the indicators is, as far as I know.

I have heard, but never tried it myself, that a green bulb behind a red lens will show up as amber when the light's on.

Like I say, I've never tried it myself, but it's worth a go, I reckon.

Well having bought some red lenses off Mr Dany Lord at the weekend (cheers Danny they look wicked 8) ) I thought I'd give the old green bulb trick a go... didn't work for me. It may be down to the fact that I coloured the bulb using a permanent marker for glass, maybe I made it too dark, who knows  There's gotta be a way.
In fact driving back from Stonor I was behind that sand coloured late notch with the wood panels on the side. Very nice ride. Now I'm sure that had U.S. spec rear lenses but when he flashed the hazards they came up nice and orange. If you're out there wood panel man, how did you work your magic?! :)
Now I'm torn between putting on my UK lenses, one of which was knocked and has no clear botom section, or using the US ones that are complete but the wrong colour. Whaddya reckon people?

Take it easy y'all, Manus.

i'd use US spec lenses but would put orange bulbs in behind the white section and switch the wires around.

As far as I'm aware all red rear lenses are legal on pre 65 vehicles, but you have to run white indicators on the front. I'm sure somone will be along shortly if thats wrong
