You are doing an epic job there, keep going.
I remember this car from a few shows I managed to make it too and its easily the best looking Type 4 I have seen, wheels suit it perfectly.
Dave.
I will finish it some day!!

cheers mate ;)

right then had a good weekend on the car dosent actualy look like i gone far as iver been doing the rear suspension mount

desided to cut the hole section out the car and make a new one

so went from this

Image

to this

Image

then started to fabricate a new one

Image

Image

then got it welded back into the car

Image

Image

some new steel to go round the suspension mount to make up the inner arch

Image

Image

then moved on to replaceing the rear outer arch and reparing it again with old wings to get the profile

Image

then it was time to cut the NOS wing i got as it was for a 411 and not a 412 and as it took 18 months to find i desided to graft the light section and bumper recess in from the original wing

Image

well im the rear is nearly done as it seems like ive been doing the rear arck for ages next is the sill and then the front inner arch

i have only been cuting out the crap today so its just holes and more holes lol

front light housing looking rather poorly and couldent make up my mind which way to repair it

Image

so did this in the end to get to it all

Image

then the front inner boot section needed looking at glad i cut this out as the top chassis rail top had rusted away so i can atleast get access to it now (yes thats the fuel tank in the pic)

Image

the inner arch dont look as bad as first thought

Image

and a pic thats says it all realy

Image

and welded the original panel back in

Image

rebuilt all the chassis section and welded new inner wings repair panels

Image

Image

inner wing and cill repair new floor been fitted as well

Image

all the front sill and door post and inner wing completed

Image

and the result of welding behind a panel without moving the heater pipe first having 12" flames inside the car is quite scary had to thro a bucket of water over it to put it out

Image

hopefull as soon as i get the new front headlight section from volksfarmers i might finish the welding this week

well i havent posted much latley but have been busy on the 412

i striped all the new metal and gave it 2 coats of por15 nice messy job lol

Image

and gave some bits a few coats as well

Image

the i covererd the whole front and back inner arches with seam seal to stop any water geting anywhere and it acts as a good stone chip

Image

its also been shultz thats been sprayed on but i aint got a pick of that

i then started to prep the rear arch with its first layer of filler

Image

then rebuilt the rear suspension while the filler was going off

Image

then the last few days have been getting to this

Image

Image

havent done much filler work befor quite happy how its turned out

i can see a mot in the next 2 weeks

not going to bother spraying it till next year so not to botherd about the preping work just yet will do that in the summer

Holy crap mate, blown away with the amount of metalwork/fabriction, full respect to you!! :)

Nice to see you putting in that extra effort to keep one of the less popular cars on the road. A 412 is not an easy task as I'm sure your aware
