Got myself a '69 Savanah Beige Squareback

Post by neatbeard » 23rd February 2010 - 2:08pm

I thought i'd better say "Hi" and show you guys my latest ride. I waved goodbye to my bay camper project and said hello to this last weekend.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words so i'll let them speak for themselves. They are from another forums thread, where it was originally posted. I haven't had the chance to have a proper play with it, clean it and take my own pix yet.

Anyway here goes:

If I ever wore flares back then, I guess I could use them again some time.

Been a bit slack on updates and working on the car as I've been out driving it too much and generally enjoying it!

When I got the car it had problems getting 2nd gear when changing down and a few folk suggested that it may be 2nd gear synchro worn and a few other things to look for. It appears that this isn't the case, and it was just the shifter that needing adjusting so hopefully thats sorted as I can now change down to 2nd no problem.

It now has 12months MOT as well and went through no problem.

Plus i've decided to take the recon, low mileage VEGE engine from my roofless bug and swap them over (fittings premitting) so that I have a nice, rebuilt, leak free lump in the back of the square. As its burning oil and could do with a rebuild sooner rather than later.

So its slowly getting there. I just need to stop driving it about so I can work on it.

:D

Cheers folks. Yeah I didn't realise at the time how desireable (expensive) they are.

It really suits the interior of the car to.

Went to a local car show and we got waved to the line up area away from the main car park so got to show it - kind of! Being able to change down to 2nd is still a novelty for me to! :D

Time for another update me thinks.

Today I picked up and fitted a funky new interior thanks to resto73, top guy and a pleasure to do business with. Anyway here's the pix:

I still have to fit the door cards as I need a different set of arm rests so if anyone has or knows of any that look like the ones below then please give me a shout:

Image

I also need the separate padded armrests that fit beside the rear seat so give me a shout if you have any like this:

I've also put a deposit down on a nice new 1914cc long block so once I get that sorted it should be fun!! :D
