ZA Fastback

Post by blitzVw » 8th March 2010 - 10:11am

Hi guys,

Here are some pictures of my 1968 1600 TL. Was a one owner car from 1969 to 2010 - Previous owner bought the car as a demo car from Volkswagen 8) Was driven all over South and Southern Africa, is only on the second engine, which is a factory recon.

Car was originally Regatta Blue with a Light Sand interior. I've fitted a set of Rostyle (SA Sprintstar) wheels - now I need to lower the front 2 splines to get it level

So far I've only fitted the above mentioned wheels and a set of full red rear lenses. Needs quite a bit of bodywork and paint, but future plans include a strip and re-paint with new rubbers etc

Amazing - never seen a 5-bolt Fastback then two come along in within a couple of weeks of each other.

Nice dry country to keep the rust away, but big distances to cover instead. Most UK Type 3s never had an engine rebuild, they just rusted away - only the survivors have made it to a rebuild.

Yeah all SA Type 3s were 5 bolt and swingaxle right until '69 - The big Type 3 was never officially sold here although there are a few imports running around...

SA might be a dry country but a lot of Type3s have rusted away and a lot of the survivors have some rust issues in all the usual Type 3 places

I tried in vain to give a RHD '67 Fastback away last week, car is still sold with not a lot of major rust. That being said, you see more Ovals at a show than Type 3s - they are not very common here :(

A new life waits to this Fastback. Good luck.
Where is the engine?
