Project Fasty

Post by hazel » 9th April 2010 - 4:52pm

Hi all, I'm new to the forum so I'm still finding my way around on here. For some crazy reason I decided it would be a good idea to get myself a Fastback project and a half!

At the moment I'm already working on building a Beach Buggy (I dont know how many Buggy, Beetle, Bus owners are lurking on this forum either) anyway its a short wheel base GP from scratch, which all sort of started my accident  I'll put the link in my signature if anyone wants to have a look.

Anyway, its a wreak with no paper work as it was abandoned and the police couldnt trace any owner, so no its mine

Could anyone advice me where the VIN number may be... Is it the one that is on a little plate with 2 numbers a dash and then 5 more numbers thats under the bonnet on the left side?
What are all those other numbers on another plate that's in the middle?
Volkswagenwerk made in Germany
Heizg Typ3/255 etc etc...

Ive never done anything like this before!

Have a look on this thread on the Samba about repro pans
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... &start=260 or maybe keep your eye out for cut out ones- I picked one up from T3D a while back but they are getting hard to find

Details of what the plates and stampings mean are on www.hallvw.clara.net/dating.htm . The 'master' chassis/VIN number is on the tunnel under the rear seat. This should match the larger aluminium plate under the front (which has info on the Heizig (heater) installation approval number - you probably haven't got a petrol heater ijstalled though!). The little one you are looking at has 12-3-4567 sort of digits. There's also a colour code stamped across the end, from 1971 models. All that's explained on the dating page too. I'll probably migrate all those technical pages to the new hosting pages and have them all in the same place, but the others will be visible for some months more, I expect.

Welcome to the Forum.
Dave.
