well as ive removed the front right drum to get the snapped ball joint pinch bolts (didnt release tension of the arms doh) ive started primering the rear end and wheels....
i did order a new ball joint for overnight delivery by vw heritage using UPS but the knobend delivery driver didnt bother knocking either side of mine which has retired persons with cars on the drive all day and now its gone to depot 100 mile away until next week:mad:

so its sat arse down 4 now...pissing down anyway today...
did get driver seatbelt mount fitted though and all working ;)

had to remove front right drum last week as id snapped both pinch bolts in the arms when trying to remove the ball joints.
the upper was recoverable but the lower ball joint i had to get a new un.
got the snapped bolts drilled out....my daft fault i didnt take the tension out the beam arms b4 i tried to undo em...
anyway ive got a nice new ball joint now and its all back together.

ok so ive also managed to fit front and rear seatbelts this week.
I removed a small piece of the heater channel and bolted the box section of the belt to that and its real solid and in the correct place and works perfect.
the rear belts the mounts were already in place i just had to locate the lap belt part so ive bolted them to the arch and its job done.
Image

ive also managed to get most of the car primered inc 1 wheel.
Image
must finish priming the entire body this week and stonechip the arches and entire undabody...
when i get a new battery next week il tackle the electrics which hopefully wont be too much hassle as i also got the main junction box back in and connected up.

well as i got mega flu just over a week ago and i mean flu...if there was ten grtand at the bottom of the garden i wouldnt have give a flying shit:eek:
anyway...i managed to get the exhaust back in and the exchangers all rigged up last time i was on it...
ive got the battery in and literally ready 4 fire up and then got that flu thjingy/
so yesterday i managed to paint all the steelies a nice beige left oiver from the 59 bug...and i got 3 out of 4 tyre letters painted...thats all the energy i could muster:rolleyes:

but today i went the big start up and when i jacked the front of the bug only to watch fuel piss out the fuel line from the car to the pump:rolleyes:
luckily i had a spare hose and sorted that whilst my mate plugged the pipe with his finger good lad;)
so then i rolled it out onto the road and went 4 it again only to see fuel piss out the hose that runs from carb to carb:eek:
and as i didnt have any more hose i pushed the car away and left it till tomorrow!!
but heres a few pics of the new steeliz and moondiscs!:D

tomorrow also ill try n fit rear bumper and lights....

got rear bumper fitted and she started up too!!!
see link below

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fb83cF-TIfE

but then it nearly ended up dead in ashes :o

fuel drip onto exchanger and whooooomph....the whole freekin engine bay was alight....flames lickin the roof!!
proper shat mesen and if it wasnt for paul having an extinguisher in his van im in no doubt at all
that the square would have gone up cos i was ready to leave it once i realised it weas gonna take hold...
damage is luckily very minor...scorched underside and soot coated areas and one of the thick wiring
cables took a good singeing....will check it all out tomorrow....
a very very lucky escape and a fire extinguisher on the buying list

heres 19 secs of video you can just see the smoke in the rear as i leap out lmao
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ1gHwaiJA8

and heres the aftermath with rear bumper attached

okay update....
yesterday i went round the entire car checking the bodywork for any small dents and marks and applied filler...not much needed...
Image
took it to to molerz today and broady also turned up good man...
the suspect carb taken out and given a good going over by broady
moler replaced all the wiring that id fried in the fire
but couldnt start it up and do a recheck cos the fuel cut off solenoid was beyond help....all fuel lines are new as are the fuel line clips
one of the threads on a head has also snapped off so another job there gotta replace a head too.
that was possibly the blowing noise in the video earlier...
whilst on the bad news trail its also apparent that the beam has a huge crack in it that i didnt see before and its beyond help so luckily broady has a spare beam that ive now agreed a deal on so thats a job 4 me next week. but heres some fotos and what a job loading it on the trailer....how tight is this!!!
Image
Image
Image

on a plus side i got the rear lights fitted and all working inc brake lights...
then i got red oxide underneath along with finishin off the white stone chip for a good clean look
Image
Image
Image

moler collecting a spare solenoid from broady just to get it running and check any faults...hes doin that tonite on his own what a top man hehehe...and tomorrow will poss start on the header but more likely next week...

the squares running and driving :woohoo:
picked it up from molers today (with mats help...should have seen
him move when i floored it onto the trailer lmao!) and after the pair of them worked their magic
for 3 hours saturday and about 5 hours sunday i now have a driveable veedub!!
(once mot'd ill be getting the carbs set up fully and a few tweeks)

got a new screen being fitted tuesday by autoglass so wednesday ill be stripping the beam off
in prep for fitting the one ive bought from broady nearer the end of the week...

and then its MOT time!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant believe it!! its been worth every minute
in the winter outside slogging away cos this summer im gonna be ker------ruisin!!!!!!
updates to follow and full picture detail of beam swap.

ok after lowering the square last month ive decided that it needs to come
up slightly..
i did raise the driver side last week but im not happy with it cos i managed to
pull the spline bar all the way out and lose my point of reference...
and it came off the outer spline end too so total loss of reference lmao...

so ive stripped both spline bars out completely from inner and outer...
heres the bar
Image

and it actually needed a good clean in the grooves
Image

i also took this opportunity to give the undersides a good red oxidising...
Image
Image

so tomorrow i will get the outer splines exact on the spring plate cover...
ill then insert the bar and get the inner splines exact so the weight load is the same.
ive got a ref line to 'stock' and 'slammed' so i should get it somewhere in the middle
possibly nearer to the stock line to allow for some sagging...

and the beams lookin oh so good

well first of all this is what im getting the square ready for!!!
Image

well i levelled the spline bars so the weight ratio is even and put it all back together but im not sure i got the intended raise i was after so im leaving it 4 now and after MOT etc i can start messing about cos by then ill have the rear seats in and ill try a few mates sat in it and see how she drives and go from there
Image
Image

okay so yesterday i started front beam removal and managed to get it jacked up, tank out and a few bolts out before time was up
Image

first was the brake removal
Image

here you can see the 3 bolts that need removing for the beam and theres 1 at the back
Image

i also removed the spindles frpm the drums
Image

and then it was the moment i was shocked by the state of the beam when i removed the clamps and rubber clamps!!!!!!
Image
Image
just shows what hides under that good looking area!!!!

beam off!!!
Image

bit of a mess
Image

little bit of red oxide primer for protection
Image

the beam clamps and rubber clamps were in great cond
Image

and i might even paint the square its original green...wanted to see what it looked like so here it is lmao
white arrow shows that hole ive welded up

you know when you go and check a tiny hole out and it leads to an hours work.....mmmm
thats what happened when i checked out a hole near to the nearside upper body mount for the beam....luckily the section that supports the top beam bolt was in good order but the surrounding area was pretty much f#####d!!
Image
Image
Image
the 2 holes are for the bolt and rubbers center tube
Image

this is the view from the wheel arch side
Image

and tomorrow ill be finishing the beam modification off that my mate has started....its the mod wer the bottom clamp bolts that tend to whack the road (3 splines for sure) are removed and the clamp is modified giving a good inch extra ground clearance...pics on that mod tomorrow!!
