After an 8 month recovery period for a shoulder injury, and the inability to sell, scrap, give, trade or otherwise, this car.
I,ve decided to return to the mig and angle grinder, and forge onwards

Your the right man for the job, keep it cranking, you know it makes sence. There such a great car to drive. And becoming more popular by the month as far as I can see.

They are a brilliant car to drive no doubt. Second to no other VW imho.

Its only because I couldn,t sell it to someone else, that I,m doing it to be honest, I
like it too much to scrap it.

I see a nice looking one sold on DD a month or two ago. Never saw it close up though, seemed too
cheap at 4.5K

And its great exercise for me shoulder recovery, more enjoyable than dumbells.

Normal Type 3 airbox woes

I hammer formed a new removeable panel. That I will fit with rubber seals to allow me access for cleaning.

Panel is large enough to get good access for prep work under the vents. Might consider a gel coat coating
on the tray while I,m at it.

Decided on making a lock seamed bead to attach the airbox hood to the airbox. This
gives me the access to regularly check it and keep it clean and rustfree.

Here you can see the bead trial fitted to the hood edge

Here again the bead fitted, and a loose piece of material fitted to check the body fit side of the bead

Viewed from the inside edge of the hood

Viewed from the top of the hood outer edge.

Problem uploading a close up view of the bead, hopefully tomorrow

Both heater channels are well shot.
So cut the drivers one out, that you see here, and fabricated a new one
thats nearly finished in 1.5mm galvanised metal

New wing repair panel made for the arch section , as the original is in poor condition.
And as new wings are unobtainable, back to the hammer.
