Hi all, I've been browsing on here for a while and thought it was about time I introduced myself and my car.
Its a 65 built (66my?) Austrailian square so its a bit of an oddity spec wise.
It has ozzy only red/white and black interior, although the drivers seat doesn't match. Also it has a 1600 twin carb but retains wide five drums and 6v electrics.
Anyway its first outing since i aquired it last october was an attempt to get to the volksworld show, well 50 miles in and just before the m3 the dynamo seized, so we cut off the belt drove to the nearest services and had breakfast whilst we waited for the aa to come and recover it.
Its now sat up again whilst i try and find someone to recon the dynamo.
Here are some pics of the fun we had!
Appologies if the photos dont work, its the first time i've tried this

Pretty car - lucky guy! I've run Type 3s for thousands of miles and never had dynamo problems. Belt tension is probably the cause of the trouble - it doesn't need to be anything like as tight as a Beetle belt or an alternator belt, since it transmits a maximum of 360 Watts of power and doesn't have to turn the cooling air fan as the crankshaft drives the fan and the dynamo.
Apart from bearings being overstressed, the other problem that some have is slipping wearing out the fan pulley, which the correct tension also helps avoid. In practice, it rarely need readjusting often - I can't recall the last time - and belts last for ages. If you need a new belt, a Jaguar XJS alternator belt is the correct 9.5 x 1000 size.

Re: my ozzy square
Thanks for the kind comments guys
Thanks also for the info regarding the dynamo, although i dont think belt tension was an issue. I think it was purely down to age and lack of use as from what i can work out the car had pretty much been abondoned by the side of the road in austrailia, after a small accident causing damage to the front drivers side (hence the lack of trim there now).
It was sat there for years before being shipped back here where it was sat up for the best part of 5 years before being put back on the road about a year before i got my mits on it!
I will try to post up some more pics of the interior asap
