That looks superb!! Well done! I agree, good choice on the colour, she'll look lovely when it's all put back together!

Are you going for white wing beading out of interest?

cheers dave.

I've already got a full set of black beading to got in. still I've changed my mind ten times already on thing that I've done.
for example I've painted up the wheels in red and im not sure of these,(sprayed wheels red before choosing colour for car!!) i was going to order black interior panels and seat covers but when it came to the phone call i went with red an so on and on. i should just leave things alone!! id have it finished by now if i wasn't so fussy. anyway I've set a deadline to complete it, its going to bugjam in July.........

"July you say, why sure that's 5/6 months away, your laughing".

as anyone knows who has undergone a resto, its nearly impossible to keep to a deadline, its all the small details that go un-missed that chomp away at time. (OK im just shite at time management really! :? )

This is some of the work that went into reinstalling the new head liner
not a job to be rushed but rewarding all the same..
the kit came with the main head liner and a large section for rear and centre pillars.
i used the tried and tested bulldog clip route.(seen it done on here, cheers chaps.)

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

with the two rear pillars covered and the vents installed, it was time to start with the main section.
i noticed that a few of the plastic ends that go on the end of the roof rods that go through the liner were perished.
so i used blue electrical barrel crimps that fitted snuggly to the rods.

Image

Image

after a good test fit and got me head around what i was going to do i glued the back edge first, keeping a pull from the centre out both ways

Image

Image

Image

then repeated the same at the front, making sure to pull it and keep some tension to the liner.

Image

Image

Image

then pulled from the door pillars, so the centre again and worked out from there, i secured it on both door pillars so as to keep the liner centred and not all pulled to one side.

Image

Image

Image

then worked it down to the front pillar and secured again.

Image

Image

Image

Image

then worked it back to the rear pillar on both sides.

Image

Image

Image

the only problem with the kit was that it didnt come with the non perforated material for the window ledges and down the inside of the centre and front pillars, so i used what i had which was some more of the liner material..

Wow, such a lovely job of the headlining to match the body and paintwork. You're setting the hurdle high for the rest of us :)

Amazing work! And as for the deadline, I can relate to the going backwards and forwards part! I've split my time with cars across 8 of them, which I blame as to why none of them are finished!

We're all behind you for the Bug Jam deadline if that counts for anything! :)

cheers david. i think if anyone spends SO much time on a project then a decent level can be achieved. ive found that if you devote to much time to any project the fun goes out of it, and nearly becomes a work like chore and not the hobby it should be. so i just walk away from it from time to time, which i find reignites the enthusiasm.

:) Yes, it's a bit of a collection at the moment! I'm afraid that they're not all VW though. 4 x VW's, 3 x Fords & an MG - all in various states of repair to say the least!

You have to have a deadline, no matter how daft it may feel at the time, but I think the rate your moving, it is well in your grasp! :)

Superb job of that headlining, Colin. Nice idea to use crimp ends with the end clips.

I remember 'finishing' the Fastback years ago at the Malvern Show by finally removing the Halfords (?) seat covers and cleaning up the vinyl. Luckily they were pretty decent.

well dave 50% vw stock is still a fair ratio of motors. and i must admit, ive got a soft spot for an ol ford.

(editor dave)... somehow i knew that little crimp idea would appeal to you....

Followed this with great interest over the first two pages an then I had a bit of an internet absence. Sat and read the following 3 pages last night. Some top work there sir! id like to know more about the electrolysis. Is it a home made set up? Im doing my spindals in the coming weeks, if they'll come up that good then I think ill be doing it that way.

I also have workshop envy, yours is much larger and more substantial than mine!
