I painted it today, might cut it back tomorrow and refit the refurb'd oil filler cap and sticker :D all I did with the cap was put a zip wheel in a drill to polish it up somewhat then clear-coat it 8)

all done and finished, quite a happy bunny now and the diff seems to have stopped leaking oil too! so must have just been residue and the fact I ran it with no engine breather for a while so may have blown a bit of oil past the rear main oil seal. only time will tell and for now there's no oil dripping :)

other little jobs include fixing the clock (again) but this time I had it ticking away on the bench for a few days nicely and kept good time too 8)

cheers guys! I gave the rear bumper a polish with a mop and Autosol too but it has quite a lot of deep scuffs from being stored for many years :( looks ok in the picture though but I'm thinking of getting it re-chromed when funds allow...

just done the leaky axle seal again, hopefully it won't drip now but only time will tell! the stub axle had a little bit of pitting and a shiny rut where the old seal was so rubbed this down with some used 1500 wet and dry paper before rebuilding it.

my damn clock stopped again and I'm loosing faith in it now  it worked OK on the bench for 3 days and then in my car for 2 days then stopped.. the points need changing but not sure if this can be done as they well past there best...

If you're struggling with your clock I've got a spare I acquired recently, it's the older type with no ground connector. Not tested myself but apparently is in working condition.

it's the points that are worn and round so not sparking/activating reliably..

just took it for a drive and so far no diff leaks! it still runs like crap though and I need to get it set up 100% and to top it off my daughter wound the passenger window down and now it won't go back up  I wasn't impressed with her although I know what's wrong with it, it just seems like I spend more time fixing the car than driving it these days :(

It's worth sticking with... I keep thinking I'm at a level where I can sit back for abit then something else rears its head...My dad constantly reminds me there will always be something to do on an old car.

Hi,
The car looks great! Where did you buy your door rubbers from that go all around the seal, if they are universal what size should I get - many thanks in advance

Hi Mark, this is how the Fastback looks today. Sorry, I should introduce myself, Jimmy here, I just bought this fastback that Mark has laboured over and just wanted to let him see how it looks now that is back to stock.
