Good stuff, that must have been a satisfying drive!

Can't believe you were failed on missing bump stops, I think half of the Volkswagen community is missing those - including me!

Think it was more an advisory but it's prompted me to fit them! Needed to fit new bungs.

well my 1st outing in it went quite well yesterday, I took it to the local VW show here in Doncaster and while I was there I thought I might as well enter it in the "Show and Shine" event, I was thrown in with the T1 guys and made the top three  I've been asked to pop back today for the final.. quite chuffed seen as though it isn't finished 100% yet..

done about 20 miles in her so far and have a few minor niggles to sort out, the carbs and/or timing still need a bit of fine tuning as progress is very slow and struggles to get over 50mph! having said that it's very manoeuvrable and a smooth drive. I've decided I need to put the rear suspension back up to stock height or at least 1.5" higher as it's just too impractical and bottoms out really easy, front seems about spot on but has a couple of annoying squeaks and "ticks", it may help if I grease the beam? :D it also needs a full alignment doing on the front end as this was a guess at best from the rebuild, this results in vague steering into bends and it just feels wrong somehow..

Mark.

Excellent result for a first outing! Be good to see some show pictures if there are any?

I'm running KYB gas shocks all round on mine, which is around the same height as yours and this helps to keep her off the ground. It's only really when there are 3/4 passengers that it bottoms out every now and then.

we got a couple of pics, need to upload them. the Fastback came 1st in the show and shine, it wasn't a massive event with top name cars but still chuffed at the result! it was the only type 3 or 4 there!

new front bumper fitted today, well pleased now it has a nice front end! got an Eberspacher heater to plumb in at some point too but that's a big project as I know little about them and think it has a few pieces missing.. also want to replace the cal look rubbers with the correct seals with chrome inserts (have these), just need to get round to doing it.

Petrol heater will be great. You can get 7 day timers that are part of the original clock so no more cold mornings.

Hi Marko - I have a working BN2 that I am fitting to the car in the next couple of weeks.
If you need pictures or wiring reference let me know...
just need to figure out where to make the holes in the inner wings...

Its a 1969 body so early inside the front - no air box bulge.
I have seen original vw fitting instructions somewhere - cannot remember where though.
I think I will make the exhaust hole first and then mount the unit then make the hole into the cabin - wish I had done prior to paint...

I did find instructions but they were to suit later Type3 with fresh air box/fan, not sure where I found them now!

been trawling the net and found these articles, they may help and it's given me a little more insight! I'm missing the air inlet pipe but apparently I can just leave that bit and let air come in from the boot.. I don't have the correct brackets either so will have to fab some up!

some good reference there - I have the air inlet pipe but am not going to use it to keep things simple.
The air inlet near the exhaust is a fixed pipe with a bend on it - I do not have one of these but was going to use stuff used on later eberspachers which is stainless stell flexi pipe - I thik it is 24mm inlet but will check.
I will take some close ups of the brackets with dimensions for you -

would be great if you could! I just sprayed the unit in silver Hammerite and waiting for it to dry, will take a few pics in a bit, looks OK.

my exhaust is a little worse for wear too, it's 40mm tube so should be easy to make but again, I don't know what shape it should be as mine came off a 1303 and the end is rotten anyway! think it should have a kinda scoop thing on the end to direct heat away from tyre?
