I have a workshop bulletin numbered K-61 for February 1969 describing changes to twin carb set ups for the type 3 which may or may not help you Mark.
Left hand carb should have a 130 main (changed from 132.5)
Right hand carb should be 127.5 main (changed from 130)
Fast idle cams were also changed on automatic type 3's on carb numbers 311 129 027B/028B. Old versions have a number 13 stamped in the carb top body, behind where the chokes screw into (you have to remove the chokes to find it). New version has either no number or a 35 stamped in. Apparently if you change the top of the carbs and put new tops on older bodies, you have to ensure you correct the throttle valve gap (should be .09 +/- 0.05mm). The distance between the throttle valve lever and the limiting screw must be 3.2mm.
I guess carbs get messed with over the years so I hope this helps to ensure you have the correct set up.

fascinating info there! to complicate things further I have a 71 engine with auto trans and I have made up the pair of carbs from 2 sets but the tops I swapped over looked identical just not as warped! not sure what jets I have, there's that much going on inside those carbs I don't even know which are the main jets? and is there an obvious number stamped on them?

just had a look at my spare carbs and the air correction jets are 140 and the main jets are both 127.5, I would have to take my carbs off the engine to check what they are so will leave them for now unless I get further trouble!

Lower float would leave needle valve filling carb, wouldn't it? Or the pivot os lower so the float sticks up more? There's a spacer on the hinge pin - can't recall how it goes but it's possible to put something in upside down. It's a curved piece with a couple of legs!

well that depends how the brass part was bent! I know you're not supposed to bend this part so just replaced it with a spare I had, only time will tell if it's OK but will try not to park on too much of an incline nose down!Editor wrote:Lower float would leave needle valve filling carb, wouldn't it?

different PDSIT iterations called for different float heights (mainly set by thickness of the washer behind the needle & seat valve), if you are mixing and matching carbs bodies and tops you might have to experiment to find something that a) doesn't overflow b) doesn't run overly rich c) doesn't run overly lean

I was trying to update this thread but my Photobucket is playing up on my laptop. .. fitted new oem style side repeaters last week and also some nicer headlights as mine were not too great!

Marko, are your old side repeaters for sale? I need a pair for my late square.

no sorry, I had 1 side repeater and I sold it to a guy in Indonesia! I do have a few bits and bobs but not much to be honest..

small update, finally got some OEM side markers! repro lens but they look nice also fitted some better headlights that are in nice condition and the reflectors are nicer too

thanks, got a better screen to go in with "non" Cal look rubbers although I need to order "C" trim for all rubbers from ISP yet also have pop outs and quarter lights to fit, I hope to do all the windows in one hit as spring nears

Are you going to do the windows yourself? I think so! I did the rear screen with Cal look rubber but that's getting trim rubber too, plenty of silicone lubricant and a washing line or length of wire is the order of the day!Chino wrote:Are you going to do the windows yourself? I have been told front and rear screens are a much trickier proposition than rear quarters, so I imagine they won't cause you much trouble.

been doing a few jobs this weekend seen as though we are being spoilt with this lovely march weather we are having! fitted a new dip stick tube and jubilee clip (hate using scabby old fittings!) and also gave my fan belt cover a repaint ready for a new sticker I got coming for valve clearance
anyway, the main thing I have achieved today is I got some heat in my car! I fitted the over axle ducting and also the under seat ducting but I have noticed considerably more air flow from the passenger side? is this normal or is something amiss on the drivers side? both flaps are opening OK and it's been a while but I fitted new levers on the end of heat exchangers last year so I presume they are OK.

I always experienced the same on my 412's first time around, especially on screen defrost. I put it down to the heating system being designed to benefit the driver in LHD cars, us right hooker drivers just had to be a bit more hardy.Marko wrote:anyway, the main thing I have achieved today is I got some heat in my car! I only have heat in the back though, the guy whom fitted the new heater channels left the tubes out that's one reason I bought an Eberspacher but I still haven't fitted it!

I think the logic still applies though, that there's a "by design" greater airflow / higher temperature to the left hand side of the car. Mind you, my experience of type 3's is limited to the one my mum had in the late '70's. The heat exchangers of the type 3 worked far better than the type 4 so maybe best to await comments from other type 3 owners.

I got my pop outs fitted today, I'm over the moon and well chuffed! just need to find some decent quality screen rubbers and I'm sorted!
