Fibreglass wings???? help me pleaaaaaase

Post by joeygman » 8th October 2012 - 9:29pm

Hi, i have recently bought a 69 fastback and am ready to get it sprayed, however the two front wings are in pretty poor shape. I have been told to replace them rather than get the rusty bits cut out.

But i cant find any........ANYWHERE!

I would even put fibreglass on but am struggling with that one too.

If anyone out there can help, would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey, ive found a few original front wings on samba but they're all located in the U.S. Still gonna be worthwhile getting them shipped over. I'm pretty new to the fastback so a bit of advice would be handy.
mine is a 69 im wondering will any year with wraparound turn signals be ok? I think i read something that said they slightly increased the size of the nose from 70 onwards? Cheers and i'll get some pics on soon

69 is the cross over year so you could have either? does it have the later Euro style bumpers? (shark nose front!)

The third digit of the chassis number is the giveaway if you can't see the car! '9' is for 1969 model (to Aug), and '0 (then '2') is the 1970 model longer front.

The USA '69 (short-front) will have bullet indicators (small holes) rather than wrap-around indicators (the neater ones).
Dave.

where in the world are you? I have a late model wing in my mates garage in Bedworth near Coventry, but I cant remember if it was fibreglass or metal, or even remember which side it was for. it's been there for a few years!

Hi mate, I'm in north east england not far from newcastle. It doesn't have to be fibreglass I would actually prefer metal, was just proving tricky to find any In the uk. I don't think the later model wings are any good for mine, but then again I'm kinda hoping someone knows more than me! If you could check it out wud much much appreciated cheers

If its a 69 (see editors reply) you'll want an early wing - a late one won't fit.

Its gonna be an early one I need then definately. If you hear of one anywhere could you let me know thanks, I've been checking ebay daily but havn't found anything. That's why I'm resorting to looking for something in the US.

there are plenty of wings in Germany, would work out cheaper than buying from states.. Mario @T3HQ has loads too but won't be cheap, he comes over from Germany to the UK ow and again and brings them over to save shipping/damage. it's one thing you have to pay good money for unfortunately, them and bumpers :(
