Celebrating X-mass 2011 in our 412 in the barn, with our 2 German Sheppards. Too bad the old one (Ysaye) isn't with us anymore  . At the age of 10,5 she died. The youngone Sydney) is now 3,5 years old, and can't wait to make her first ride in the four-twelve!!

We were really making progress there, and we really thought the 412 project would be finished before our holydays. But then... We bought THIS:

Image

A sunroof, from a sedan!! It was goinig to be one of the biggest challenges of this resto. I had never done a conversion like this, and the roof of our variant was really the only thing which was in a perfect shape when we bought the car....

Breaking news! There's a hole in our roof!!!!!!

This is a picture of our spare roof, with th ecomplete sunroof in it:
Image

Hole in the roof. I cut the roof-plate, left the inner piece obove the windshield:
Image

Side of the roof still here. I tried not to mess up the shape of the roof, and the gap for the doors.
Image

Some plumbing is required here. Here you can see the drainpipes in the spare roof:
Image

Image

Happy!!!!! Let the sun shine!!!! Yeah!!!
Image

Image

The sunroof itself. It looks exactly like one from a beetle. Same guiding system.
Image

Holes for the draining

The draining in the spare roof. New pipes will be installed, but not in steel.
Image

The roofs will not be welded, but glued.
Al paint has to be removed for perfect sticking

We were planning on mounting some 17" rims, but for now ($$$$), we sprayed some cookies, because of 2 reasons:
These were just laying around in my barn, and I already have some tyres to fit

WOW!! Very impressive transformation.

Sorry to hear about your loss of Ysaye. Hopefully I've a few more years with our GSD, Herbie, as he is only 4.

Just wish my 412 looked as tidy but being used every day there is no time! Hopefully my 411 will see the light of day next year as that's almost as bad as your 412

Spraying 2-Pack paint without an air-fed respirator is not advisable. The eyes also need protection from the paint mist.

It's a great job you're doing but it's definitely worth considering the risks of spraying 2 pack. There's a lot of good info on the MIG forum and this cautionary tale http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/show ... hp?t=14051

the only time I've been effected was when I used 2k lacquer to paint a friends bike, I was ill the day after and this is the only time ever it's had an effect (and that's assuming it was the lacquer..). of course I don't do a full car at once with the garage door shut, I always make sure there is plenty of ventilation and spend as little time as possible in there.

OK, I already told you guys, that we bought this car without an engine... So we bought a few boxes with engine parts, an ampty case, etc... let's build!!

Look at our young mechanics!!

Image

Image

Image

Image

The engine is a 1800 AN. It was difficult to build my first type 4 engine from scratch, until then I had only built type 1 engines. Especialy the engine tin was hard to sort out, and the differences between a sedan and a variant made me drill some extra holes into the fan housing. But in the end, it all worked out, and the engine ran beautifully!!

Please keep the pictures coming - even though I'm a Type 3 guy rather than Type 4, it's still worth seeing how things are done.

At this point we really had a hard time getting things done. The guys who would do some finishing and painting let us down, so we had a lot of axtra work (bondo and sanding).

Fortunately a friend offered to do the paintjob, so finally, our ride became her new coat.

SHE'S ORANGE GUYS!!!

In the cabine, without clear coat:
