Tnx Marko!
That thing is an Eberspacher heater. All 412s were equipped with those!

This is an original 1973 accessory, a timer to set the heater:
Heater actually doesn't work (yet). The fuelpump is broken....

Re: Dutch 412 Variant
Eeh, I don't know yet, I have never had this feature in one of our cars, so this will be my first VW with proper heating!
Re: Dutch 412 Variant
Update! These are todays pictures, so this is exactly how the project is at this moment.
This weekend I mounted the wings with the rubbers, and did some wiring. Lights are mounted and I also prepared the wiring for the tow-bar. I cut up an original set of spare wiring, so the wiring has the original colors.
And I just love the white indicaters!!!!

Eber takes from 0.2 to 0.7 litres/hour. It uses more petrol when the engine isn't producing heat. So drive hard to save petrol!

Whahaah!! I like the way you think. Sounds like a "Clarkson" way of thinking to me .Lahti411 wrote: So drive hard to save petrol!
But about the Ebers fuelpump... can I replace it with any aftermarket pump, like Pierburg, hardy, facet ??

Must say you have done a fantastic job. We will look to see if we have a NOS eberspacher pump for you in our vast amount of spares.
Re: Dutch 412 Variant
That would be great!!
We are still looking for some missing parts, I'll put together a list of wanted parts.
But first I have to sort out some boxes, to make sure which parts we do have, and which we don't...

Tnx!! We are very happy with the car, th eworkshop and, ofcourse, our family
Btw, nice to see so many type 3 owners enthusiastic about our 412. The type 3 seems to be much more popular among you guys. Can't blame you, my brother owned a notch for a few years. I really liked that car!

Re: Dutch 412 Variant
There were 10 times as many Type 3 made as Type 4, so it's not surprising there are more Type 3 owners, but we all appreciate the work that goes into a nice restoration.

The little Porsche on the end is another car that I would dearly love to own one day...might need to win the lottery first as the number of cars I want is greater than the amount of space available to meUncle S wrote:Tnx!! We are very happy with the car, th eworkshop and, ofcourse, our family

That's true. But that also makes it a lot harder to find the right parts for a resto. Type 4 parts are much more difficult to find than type 3 parts...
Fixing a 76 beetle was easier
Thanks. It's nice to see that you are enthusiastic about our project. Tnx!Editor wrote: but we all appreciate the work that goes into a nice restoration.
@Shawn: The Porsche was owned by a friend of us, later on he bought a 911 targa and sold the 914. It was a nice ride, fitted with a 1.7 type 4.

They also shared the front brakes with later Type 4s. One of the few parts that are still availableUncle S wrote: @Shawn: The Porsche was owned by a friend of us, later on he bought a 911 targa and sold the 914. It was a nice ride, fitted with a 1.7 type 4.

Bumpers will be sprayed orange too, chrome bumpers wouldn't match this style. Brackets and towbar will be sandblasted and coated.

I just read about all the specs of the Eberspacher BA4.
HERE is all info you need to know!
Nice to see how 70s technique was used, to put a 24h timer in a 12h clock. Really cool!!
