In the meanwhile, we have been busy rebuilding our 412, but we have been struggeling with some issues. We had a bit of a problem in the headlight relay, but we have fitted the right relay now. Seems to be a tipical type 4 part...

Bleeding the breakes also was a problem, just looked like we could'n get the damn air out of the circuit. Eventually we gave up, and concluded that the master break cylinder was bad.

It looks like the type 4 cylinder has the same parts as the beetle master cylinder, so tomorrow I'll buy a beetle Master cylinder and swap the cups.

Next thing was test mounting the front bumper, in the original position:

Image

Then I mounted the Kamei wing, which was actually a 1303 part:

Before I painted the brackets, I drilled some extra holes, 4cm back from the original holes:

This is how it fits. Clearance between body and bumper is just enough, so the parts are ready for the paint-job!!

Gotta love the Kamei spoler! I've been thinking about installing one. Could you take a picture how it looks like from the side when the car is back on the ground?

Well, it took some cutting and heating to fit the spoiler, and it does need some more work before it really fits properly.
When the spoiler fits the way we want it, I'll make a picture for you!

This weekend I spent some time in the parn, mounting the windows in the doors. It all went well, until I tried to close the wondow. The last cm just didn't seem to fit into the upper side of the frame...

Then I repaired the window mechanism bij turning the cable, and fitting a new gear.
But still somehow the window just didn't fit into the frame.
I tried another frame, and the window fitted perfectly

Removed the frame again, so it can be painted this week. Happy with the progress so far:

Doors are almost finished now, frames are sprayed and the central doorlocking mechanism works smoothly.

Yesterday I visited the chairman of the Dutch 412 club, who had some interesting parts for me!
Top mount of the front suspension:

These small pieces hold the front bracket of the chair:

And it looks like this winter is never going to end, so here is a "new" pump for the Eber:

Image

And he also had a coverplate underneath the dash. Thes are becoming rare, since they are made out of cardboard:

Image

And last but not least, the last missing part of the exterior. With this thing, the last parts can be sprayed orange!

Yes, the exterior is nearly finished, but the interior still needs a lot of work. Step by step we will get there...

Last week I relocated the battery into the front. The original place was underneath the driversseat

All connections of the cooling and heating are fixed now:

And Yesterday we went to my brothers work, to do some final checks. Brakes and headlights were ok, last thing was the wheel alignment.

Somehow that reminds me of Forrest Gump... RUN FORREST!! RUN!!

With the green garageplates we took the 412 out for her first testdrive. It was my first type 4 experience ever, and it felt great!!

Well, the project is not really completed. Interior needs to be built up, and the bumpers still need some orange paint. But yes, it felt great to drive a 412 for the first time!!

I wonder if the bumpers would look better black rather than body coloured? Just my two-pennies-worth...

Either way it is a great looking 412, so glad you liked the first drive and didn't hate it

A black rubber trim wil be mounted on the bumpers, so I think that would look nice on an orange bumper. Same thing we did on ur white german beetle. I just prefer body cooured bumpers:-)

We are planning to go on a holyday with pur oldtimer caravan, but the back springs are a bit weak. So I ordered a set of high-jackers, which need some modification to fit our 412
