Dutch 412 Variant, in VW Ultra!!

Post by Uncle S » 9th November 2012 - 10:20pm

Hi all, after a short introduction, I've started this Thread to keep you posted on our 412 project, we already started in 2009.

We bought the car in Belgium, in 2008, and stored it for a year, due to other projects.
In 2009 we rolled it into our barn, it came without engine...

Previous owner cut a huge hole in the front:

Even removing parts, such as a fender turned out te be a big discovery. What a difference with a beetle!!

Well, this was only one part. In our file we have hundreds of pictures, so I'll make a selection for you, or else this thread is only filled with welding and grinding pics... Except for this one!
Our youngest, Collin, welding:

Since the outside already looked like a car again, it was time to lay our hands on the inside... Disaster. Again!!

After all the welding, we threated the whole floor and inner pieces with Anti-Rust products:

All visible parts became a layer of primer:

I always use 2pk paint without an air fed mask, it's a good 3M one though and I'm still here alive and well

great project by the way! I wish my missus was as enthusiastic as yours when it comes to helping out, she like the end product but has no interest what so ever when it comes to restoring cars :D

Tnx, guys!!
My other (good) mask isn't air fed, but the filters are much better than a cheap-ass dust mask ;)

As I'm lookin' back through all those pictures, I wonder what I was thinking to restore a car as bad as thisone... at this point, I'm very glad we did. We already bought an oldtimer caravan for our next summer holydays!!
The caravan is on 13" steelies, so it also has work to do ;)

I'll sort out some more pics for you guys. The project is lookin' better and better already!!
