Engine dress up
So it's time to drop the engine out of the Squareback. I have a loose head and carb issues so I thought I would do some detailing at the same time.
Engine is now out
Starting the strip down
I will try and post pics as I go along
Cheers

Re: Engine dress up
Is it going to get a hit with the performance stick at the same time?

Re: Engine dress up
No, I'm not breaking the engine down. It was rebuilt in 2009 and has only done 3500 miles since then.
All the tin is now off and in a box ready to be dropped at the powder coaters on Monday.
Shiny new fuel pump ready to go on, stainless steel pushrods tubes, shiny copper fuel lines etc.

If you don't have heat exchangers connected you should blank the outlets from the fan shroud off.
Most of the fans cooling effort is currently going out to atmosphere, which doesn't need any cooling.

They have been blocked off at the end of the ducting for a long while. I will do a more permanent job now it's out.miketyp3 wrote:If you don't have heat exchangers connected you should blank the outlets from the fan shroud off.

Re: Engine dress up
Will clean up nicely with a bit of the old gloss black powder. Been thinking about the same treatment to my fasty of late. Is it possible to get much of the tin wear off while the engine is in place?
Re: Engine dress up
it's a damn site easier with the engine out, not saying it's impossible but a struggle with engine in situ, a couple of stubborn screws will have you cursing in the engine bay! the alloy fan housing was a pain to get clean as well if you were thinking of doing this, may be easier to have it sand blasted clean then powder coated silver or left natural.
I did mine in 2pk gloss back but wish I'd done it in satin black now for a more original look, you live and learn I guess! there are many things I would do different if I did it all again.

Re: Engine dress up
That's interesting Marko!
Will give it a bash I think! I have some motorbike stuff I'm about to get powdercoated so might see if I can get the tin wear off and done at the same time. Just for a wee tidy up.

Re: Engine dress up
I would opt to take the engine out if you can, makes it a lot easier to get to everything.
I have some lovely stainless pushrods tubes to go in once the tinware comes back which will hopefully be next week.
Supposed to be driving it to volks world so I better pull my finger :-0
Cheers

Re: Engine dress up
Well there has been a problem with the cabinet at the powder coaters so I may not get my tinware back until midweek
Been doing some tidying of the intake manifold and painted the casing Matt black.
Fingers crossed it will be done by Friday ready to drive to volks world show

Re: Engine dress up
So we have some progress, got the call this morning that the powder coaters had finished.
So off I went to get my shiny bits
Then straight to work building the engine back up.
Hopefully I can get the engine back in tomorrow. We may just get to volksworld in it after all
Cheers
