Some work on my 67 Fastback
Hi all.
Had some welding done on the front wing and am well chuffed, my friend, Dougy at OG Buswerks, Kingsnorth Ashford, Kent did the welding for me and I have done the filling and painting etc.
Was worried about taking the wing off, but was relieved to see no issues
Filling commenced around headlight, bottom rear , around the side marker and rear top section.
Inside of wing cleaned up a bit and covered in waxoil, smothered it especially around the headlight bowl.
Cleaned up the inner wing of loose under seal and relieved to see nothing of note, gave two generous coats of waxoil
Wing now back on but my image shack seems to have stopped working, will have to upload another time.
Thanks for looking
All the best

Re: Some work on my 67 Fastback
Hi all
Sorry I have not really been around for a while, been a bit busy doing the kitchen, replacing fence that wind blew down and generally working. I have finally found some time to do some work on the fasty. I have taken out front and rear windows to replace seals and painted the roof, scuttles etc as I have a plan for the roof area in the near future. Had to replace A pillar headlining material and whilst apart have filled the two cracks in the dash and a friend of mine is covering at the moment. Also have adapted the VDO gauge I had in the beetle to fit a Type 3 multi/fuel gauge housing and resprayed the bezels of all the gauges.
Will sort out carpets next and replace the front seats with some I have lying around in the garage.
Thanks for looking

Hi
I used expanding foam on the cracks and onto the speaker as it had flattened out, I then cut off almost level with a hacksaw blade and the rubbed it down smooth with medium grade sandpaper. The dash is now being recovered.

Re: Some work on my 67 Fastback
Hi All
Further work, took out and re did the windscreen and once seem lined up centrally on bottom edge trim did not pop out at all and screen went in very quickly, now no more rubber sticking up on top. I have also pinstriped the edges of the roof, this was done with fineline tape and Humbrol Matt enamel as you would use on a model car/plane etc. Just have to distress it a bit now as still a bit bright. I was also thinking of doing a large chequered roof in a contrasting darker blue like a Mini style and rub it back until almost faded away.
Thanks for looking

Re: Some work on my 67 Fastback
Hi All
Further progress, Dash was going to be recovered by a friend but due to unforeseen circs he has been unable to do the job. I have therefore smoothed off the cracked parts and painted and covered with a speaker grill sized bit of vinyl as a temporary fix until it is able to be recovered, this hides the now smooth part and means I can live with it for now. I have assembled with the rev counter and am well chuffed, curiously my fuel gauge is now working properly and reads up to full where as it has never done that since I have owned the car. Got it back out on the road and went for a lovely drive, ear to ear smile again.

Haha I like that roof!
Re: Some work on my 67 Fastback
love the steering wheel, what type is it? I'm thinking of fitting something similar maybe with a full chrome horn push/boss.
there is a knack to getting screens in and if any trim is sitting a bit proud afterwards then a light tap with a rubber mallet can improve things by squashing the C trim down. I used a piece of rubber block on the actual trim too so as not to dent the trim with the mallet

Re: Some work on my 67 Fastback
Cheers guys, thanks for the tip Marko. The steering wheel is a Mota-Lita wheel, I bought it about 12 years ago or there abouts from a company called Europa.

Re: Some work on my 67 Fastback
Hi All
Been a while since I posted any photos on here and was on in general, been a bit of a busy time with work, family life etc.
Last month I got the car up on ramps and cleaned off the bottom of the floorpans, treated, painted and Waxoiled them, very pleased with the results. What a messy job that was. Also did the bottom of the fuel tank while I was at it. Underneath was painted with Smootherite (smothered) by roller given 3 coats which went on very quickly and gave a wonderfully smooth finish, then two thick coats of waxoil were painted on.
The front area underneath the fuel tank had some surface rust which I wire brushed off and waxoiled to death. Very chuffed just how solid this car is. Also tried to adjust my steering but the adjuster was completely solid, tried soaking, tapping all to no avail, the box was dry as all the oil had leaked out, so I pumped the box full of grease, the difference was amazing, however I have now ordered a new steering box and coupling to fit. The steering was so light I would get nervous as approaching corners.
Thanks for looking

Re: Some work on my 67 Fastback
Been doing some more work. Following fitting the new steering box and Damper, I was wondering what to do about wheels, I have been deliberating for a while and unfortunately a set of Pedrinis is out of my reach and after much searching I thought I would strip the paint off the Riviera replicas and see what they looked like, they have come out quite well and now look completely different. Just got to sort out two smaller front tyres and hopefully can bring down the front end again.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks Col
Was lucky finding this car, the wheels have changed the whole look and well chuffed, just got to sort out the front tyres now and drop front end back down a spline.
