Re: My Notchback's.
On the way back from Wheels day the other week it souded like the exhaust was blowing so today I took the '72 down to my Dads for closer inspection
Dad was out when I got there, so I stared to rub down the front panel..
found out it was the heat exchanger that was blowing so replaced that and changed the exhaust anyway, Dad also sorted out a oil leak and fiddled about with the cylinder heads
Drove home but it coughed and popped a few times, seemed a bit sluggish too.

Re: My Notchback's.
danny, do you need/want a pair of totally rust free and straight rear wings for a late notch? i think you know the ones i'm on about
i brought them a couple of years ago and was planning to use for repairing the bottom of the wings on my fasty, but decided this would be sacrilege. i would swap for a pair of fastback wings if you or the club have some
cheers, billy

Re: My Notchback's.
if you or mark can source some late fasty rear wings that are rust free i will swap. if he only wants/needs one wing, it's an o/s / drivers side rear wing i need, but i'd prefer to swap pair for pair. if you could let him know that would be great. here are some pics of the late notch wings i have:
there is one small ding by the rear of the arch on the o/s wing from storage but this will easily push out. the returns are all rock solid and there is only light surface rust in places, again from being in storage. there are no repairs anywhere on them.
i purchased a pair of 'best condition' front wings from a well known t3 parts supplier for £300 a couple of years ago, and these had a couple of small repairs in them at the bottom of the arch near the a-pillar. when they arrvied and i phoned to query the condition was told that it is neigh on impossible to find rust free wings that are 40+ years old, that all will have some defects, and that i would have to pay the postage if i wanted to return them the repairs didn't sit flush on the front of the wings and the welds weren't dressed either, so i also had to pay a good body shop to redo them. these notch wings are in much better shape than the front wings i brought, so i assume they are like hen's teeth.
i'm happy to take a pair of rear fasty wings that have been smoothed off providing they haven't just had filler put in the bumper mounts, i want to revisit my yoof - i lived in rushden in the early '90s, and at 15/16, was curious to know where the precession of cars was going.
the big top was better in those days too prodigy in '92 (?) and the music didn't stop at midnight. that could have been the reason things changed on that front
cheers, billy

Re: My Notchback's.
took the old dash top off and found this date stamped underneath it, is that the date the dash top was made or the car itself?
original paint, it will be this colour again
seats need to be retrimmed can anyone recommend anyone?

keep going Danny
Re: My Notchback's.
I've not seen a date on the underside of the dash.
I would think it's more likely manufacture of the dash, but it shouldn't be hard to work out which. The chassis (VIN) number would start 3122000001 for the first 1972 Notch or Fastback to be made, and yours wouldn't be far from that if it was made on the 5th - maybe number 3000, so if your chassis number is around 3122003000 that looks likely as the date the car was made, in which case I would expect the 3" x 1/2" plate on the front panel - left end as you look at it from in front of the car to start with 326 then 4 digits.
I have seen just one car that seemed to show a different system for the cars made right at the start of the model year, as if they made them before Aug 1st.
If you tell us the numbers, it should be possible to work out the date of production of the car - or planned production, as I had one that had slipped a day based on its chassis number, and had what seemed to be a factory repainted door. Only when it started to rust after 30 years did I see that under the marina blue it was elm green. The panels always matched perfectly, except for the chassis number and the production date as calculated from the small plate. Two others with sequential week/day stamp were out of sequence with their chassis numbers. It also suggests the chassis numbers were stamped on final assembly, to match the chassis plate.
