I know theres a few posts about seat belt fixings etc..

My square is pretty clean but it has no seat belts whatsoever.
I'm going to get it MOT'd this week as its an import and needs reregistration but surely a 1970 model should have front belts??

Help appreciated

It certainly should have the attachment points - maybe someone hung onto the belts. They may have been nice new ones or something.

The rear lower outer points are often rusted out - if it's a rust-free car, maybe they'll be fine!

VW certainly fitted mounting points in '64 - maybe earlier.

Thanks for the reply - The car came from Holland, where apparantley the seat belts are not required on historic cars..

I found the fixing points and will be purchasing a pair.
The funny thing is that I picked it up from MOT station today, it failed on a couple of points but not seatbelts..

They apparently can only inspect a belt that is fixed with bolts eg! Front seat belts had to be fitted from 1967 and rears from 1987. I reckon you were lucky -it doesn't seem to say this date in the online MoT Tester's manual!

While looking, I happened to see the Securon website http://www.securon.co.uk and they make belts for Type 3s. 500/30 seems the size and list price is £100 each. They say you should see your supplier (car accessory place) as their price will probably be more favourable. You can choose your colour - almost anything but black !

Years ago I bought up the last stock from a local ASDA shop - some had short stalks for the Type 3 and some longer (they worked in the camper). They were about £5 each!

Incidentally, the same size is used in Beetles.
