well managed to get the beam back on today with the help from daz the celica turbo builder...
now some of you may not like this part of the resto because ive butchered the lower support arm that the beam clamps to but alas ive kept the piece ive lobbed off if ever i wana revert it!

this part of the resto is to rid the underside of the beam of the butt ugly bolt that clamps the bottom of the beam together and protrudes towards the road and whacks it of lowered on 2 splines and 3 splines...well thats just whackwhackwhackitywhack....

this mod allows me to go 3 splines if i want and know ive gained a good inch (ooeer) on the clearance of it....

this arrowed part which is the lower beam grasp needs chopping a tad
Image

like this
Image

then take the clamp itself and weld a piece of metal that fits inside the rubber clamp....the red crosses show wer ive bent it to curve around the beam
Image

heres how it looks without the beam fitted
Image

a good tip is to grind the lip off that the new metal clamp wraps around for maximum clearance....dont be shy get it off
Image

set it up 4 welding
Image

before welding make sure you get the upper bolts and clamp all nice and tight so theres no movement....looking good
Image

and finally weld the new part of the lower clamp to the beam holding arms...i read a mod from a link on type 3 that welded one side and used a bolt and nut the other but ive decided to weld both sides...if i ever have to remove clamp ill simply cut the weld off releasing the clamp....
but remember i intend to go beetle beam with air ride in the near future so the lower beam holding arm isnt used when using a bug beam...
so here we have a non whacking beam that can go 3 splines...
got to do other side tomoz!! red arrow shows wer old ugly protruding bolt was and i gotta grind that weld flat too

well well well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!update!!!!!!!!!!!!

after having spent many hours trying to get the rear at a height im happy with and
more importantly EVEN..... im now super fast at stripping and re fitting the rear suspension!!

also the newly modified beam is 3 splines with no clamp bolts to hit the tarmac

MOT thursday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1pm!!!!!!!
just gotta get a side light bulb tmrw! I blasted it up and down my street today and
slammed the brakes on with no veering to the left or right and jeez what good brakes!!
im used to 4 drum brakes not discs and calipers (and new ones at that)
theres a very small amount of play in the o/s front drum and its the bearings i think
and i pick up a set tomorrow for £8.00 cos the bearings i need are the same as a rear
on a Mk3 polo/golf!! (read it type3)
so 8 months of hard work is nearly paying off and once I get the ticket I can start
sorting the interior and prepare 4 paint next month!!

Im waiting 4 my 165.45.15 tyres to arrive for the front and will fit these after weekend
and also them aicd dipped gt steeliz i got for a song
check beam wahay!!!

ffs!!!!!!!!!!!!
got this today after the near disaster last month
Image

and then today fredshed popped round and we changed the oil...went 4 a blast down the seafront.... i then decided to whack £30 of fuel in as id been running around on near empty since passing mot...
walking back to the car and WTF!!!! fuel dripping off beam....

only live less than a mile away from station so drove home, jacked it up and managed to save most of the fuel!! looking at the tank i see there is a hairline crack thats been well gunked over!!

panic!! stanford show sunday!!
quick ring round and broady tells me that gaz has a new one in Lincoln so im there tmrw to get that and get it fitted and go for the 3hr drive sunday morning to the show!!!!!!!!!

anything else im thinking!!!!!!!!

headed out on the M180 and cruised at 50ish and all was going great....
just passed scunny south junction and lost all power...
no revs...engine turning on key...

oil spray all over rear but not too much....big collection of oil on the nearside
heat exchanger....after 30 mins i checked the oil and theres still plenty left and its
between the markers.
AA got me home and ill investigate the reasons another day im knackered at mo and
cant be arsed....
anyway heres a few pics....
shame we never made it but least we are ok!!

Shame about that.

Yes, the wind was quite a nuisance at Stanford Hall - tied the gazebo to the fence, and so it was only the papers that escaped from time to time.

fredeerz popped round and worked the magic on the square to
try and work out why it failed last week, and it appears its the condenser!!!!!!!!!!!
fuel lines good, carbs gettin fuel, plugs n points ok.
coil could be faulty but fredderz brought his and he worked out that the condensers fooked.
bought a new dizzy cap....condenser arrives monday so ill get that swapped
and hope to hell it does the job!
oil spat was rocker cover avin a moment...
so afterall my worst fears it appears it could be as simple as that.

if it runs then ill get some miles on her asap and run it until anything goes wrong and
if the engine keeps going fine then ill leave it in until winter until i do the rear end resto...

and to pass the time ive given her a new look inside...wow its bright ;D

ok ive been tinkering last few days...got new condenser and dizzy etc but waitn 4 fredderz
to pop monday and work his magic and get the damn thing running i hope..
skeggy nearly here and gotta take it or ill go crazi

so after i damaged the ozzy passenger door and the mechanism not fully working
i decided to check out the spare pass door i got with the square...never really had a good look at it..

its in good nick, needs a small piece welding at some point (winter) and the seals good.
it had a smashed quarter so yesterday i removed the quarter from the ozzy door and also the main glass..
managed to smash the main glass when refitting it doh! (did a steve) and luckily had a spare.
fitted that up and the door fits lovely with lock working and both windows and door card fits spot on.

ive got 2 pass doors and a driver door spare now...
the ozzy driver door had them 5 small holes in for chrome trim so today ive welded them up and skimmed a lash of filler and its come up trumps...so a better day today than yesterdays calamities.

I surprised myself when removing the support channel from a door window - bang! and lots of bits of glass everywhere. It only needs a bit of a scratch to make the tempered glass explode, yet you can hit it hard with a fist! (but don't do that).

i was tapping the bottom of the window so so gently with a small hammer (should have used the rubber mallet like a plonka)
but it was so gentle i didnt think it could make the window explode.
ive spent a good 45 mins picking glass out the grass and red brick drive!! and ill continue to see glass
for the next few weeks im sure!!
