1971 fastback

Post by tsettle » 9th February 2012 - 8:40pm

Hey guys just found out that this website existed.
I've just bought a 1971 fastback in January so i thought I would start a thread.
Basically this fasty has been stored in a barn for 25 years and the chap that owned it past away. So until I got it it's only had one owner on the log book and 62000 on the clock.
It's all original and never been welded. It's in need of a little TLC but hopefully not too much.
Here are a few pics of when I picked it up.

Looking further into I realised there needs to be a little bit of welding, the usual areas.
I had a friend help me out from CARwerks in Lincoln with the welding.

Welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place! Nice colour, Elm green. You can pick an avatar for your posts to match.

[QUOTE=Tsettle;8264047]Here's a few pics with it all welded up. Just gotta get hold of some front wings as the original ones were fooked!
Managed to get the rear ones patched up which is good.

Those front wings don't look bad - are you sure they're beyond repair? Decent Type 3 wings are not that easy to find and will run around £100 or more if you're expecting them to be substantially free of rust.

Yeah it would be nice to. But under the headlight right down under is totally gone. I know getting some good wings is hard. Getting some new wings seems like a better idea as it's goin to cost more in time and labour as I'm not that skilled to patch then up.

Don't get on here much but here's an update.
I've managed to fit a narrowed beam with dropped spindles. Go the rear end down 2 splines.
Also got hold of some new wings and repainted them. All back together now and polished up. Got it straight through it's mot. I've tuned the engine up and she's running sweet as a nut now!
Also added some gasburners with whitewalls to be a bit different.
Here are some pics.

Useful garage, but don't you finds the tools roll down under the car?

Elm green and alabaster interior do go well together. Looks good.
