Any info on my dad's old 412 variant please

Post by Minioneman » 31st May 2014 - 9:22pm

This is a bit of a long shot, but I am trying to find the whereabouts and any info on my dad's old 412 variant which was his pride and joy. He had the car in the late 70's until the mid 80's. He did all the shows with it and won many competitions with it. My father is Graham Lowden and the car reg was xlk383n. It was in matharon blue and was simply immaculate .He sold the car to a elderly gent in Kent who I think has now died. According to dvla the car has not been on the road since 2002 so I may be to late. But if anyone knows of the car I would appreciate to know.

The club records seem to imply XLK 383N was bought from your uncle by David Kimber, but his club membership expired in 1994, so I've nothing up to date on him. I recollect both the names, but I can't really add anything. 20 years ago is quite a long time!

Your uncle was a founder member of the VW Type 3&4 Club - member number 7. There are quite a few of the founder members still alive from 1985, No. 3 is Derek Frow, 4 is Jim Bourne and 5 is Neil Birkitt (some time editor of VW Motoring) but some of us were only middle-aged back then! Ah, there's nothing like nostalgia...

I found this photo amongst my scanned pictures.

I think this is taken from VW Action Concours in 1986 when the show was held at the Stoneleigh Showground

I must have some Danny - I'll try to do a sweep through the old photos. Most of them are still in the packs of colour prints, along with negs.
