Ignition timing
Ignition timing
Hi all having a nightmare setting up timing on my 72 square, was running then started missing and popping changed dizzy to electronic acuspark , with new coil, no better , process of elimination found starter bush had failed, replaced and had starter reconditioned, at last problem sorted. Set up timing light started on button timing spot on , had cup of tea returned and started again , spot on with timing light. Tightened dizzy holding clamp tried to start no joy , will pop and fart but not run. Help please cheers Mawsy :

Re: Ignition timing
Depending on how much You've loosened the clamp, its perfectly possible for the dissy to move whilst running/cranking- Start again & tighten the clamp as soon as You're happy with it, or loosen it so you can only just move the body

Re: Ignition timing
Looks like you disturbed something when tightening. Have a look round if you could have disturbed a connection, otherwise, back to basics, use a spare plug and see if you still have a spark.
It is unlikely that something else has failed......but that means it is still possible, check daft stuff as well, you still have fuel ?

Re: Ignition timing
Could be more simple than that, the dissy can ride up while its loose. If its too loose you may find its come up enough for the drive dogs to disengage. Take the dissy cap off and get someone to crank it and see if the arm is going roundy round.

Re: Ignition timing
Final solution to dizzy problem was to go back to vaccum advance dizzy as the electronic in my experience was pants, running better now but left hand carb not accellerating, will take off and investigate cheers Mawsy
